Day 25 – Gossip
Proverbs 14:33 Wisdom rests in the heart of him who has understanding, but what is in the heart of fools is made known.
- God’s names:
- Yeshuwa – Jesus
- Soter – Savior
- Kurios – Supreme Authority, Lord
- JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- God’s character:
- Wisdom
- Understanding
Gossip separates people from those who know how to keep matters to themselves. People who need to know everything about everyone are the first to spread gossip. Consider the people you know. Who did you just classify as a gossip? You don’t need to read the tabloids to hear juicy tidbits about people. You only need to walk around your neighborhood, your housing complex, wherever people congregate, you will find gossip.
As the king of Israel, Solomon heard what people said about him and to him. As a man of wisdom and understanding, he could differentiate between those he could trust and those he couldn’t.
What about you? When you accepted Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios, He gave you a commission to go to the nations teaching and preaching the gospel. He never commissioned you to gossip about church matters, other Christians, or what you heard. Gossip makes enemies out of friends.
Be careful with what comes out of your mouth. A man of wisdom will keep matters to themselves and bring them to Kurios in prayer. He will use the power of discernment to separate truth from lies.
David asked JEHOVAH to put a guard on his lips.
Psalm 141:3 Set a guard, O JEHOVAH, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.
Eliphaz the Temanite came against Job and falsely accused him of gossiping.
Job 15:6 Your own mouth condemns you, and not I; yes, your own lips testify against you.
Yet it was JEHOVAH who testified for Job and condemned his friends.
Job 42:7 And so it was, after JEHOVAH had spoken these words to Job, that JEHOVAH said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.
Yeshuwa knows everything you say, good or bad. He alone will condemn the words of your mouth or praise you for right speaking. Therefore, it’s best to keep matters to yourself. You don’t know the damage you make when you gossip.
Let’s pray: Father, put a guard on my lips so that the only thing I speak comes from You and not from what I hear. Give me discernment in everything I hear and pray about it and give everything into Your hands. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
