Day 43 – Gossip
Proverbs 15:18 A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger allays contention.
- God’s names:
- Yeshuwa – Jesus
- JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- Pater – Father
- God’s character:
- Slow to Anger
Rumors start when people gossip, telling people things they believe about situations or people, but don’t know the facts, causing strife and hardship for the person wrongly accused. People believe what they want, especially if they don’t know or like the person. The wrongly accused person who doesn’t show anger at what was being said against them, soon stops the rumors because they didn’t retaliate.
Solomon heard gossip in his court, when he didn’t act according to the rumors, people let gossip fall to their own devices. They trusted their king. Gossip when it no longer has fuel to spread, is quickly extinguished. Solomon trusted JEHOVAH to settle the matters of what he heard. He told the people there were seven things JEHOVAH hated. Gossip was one of them.
Proverbs 6:16 These six things JEHOVAH hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.
It’s sad to believe that there are people who gossip and cause strife in the church. When you put your faith and trust in Yeshuwa to guide your tongue and keep your ears from listening to gossip, you won’t react when you hear rumors. You will walk away and when you get alone in your secret place, you will pray to Yeshuwa to take care of the matter you overheard and let Him take care of it.
Matthew 6:6 “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Pater who is in the secret place; and your Pater who sees in secret will reward you openly.
What have you heard that caused trouble or could cause trouble? Take it to Yeshuwa and let Him take care of the matter and watch how He works to bring peace instead of strife.
Let’s pray: Father, keep my tongue from gossip and my ears from listening to rumors. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
