It might seem surprising that I would choose a sloth as the animal I am most like. When I saw the prompt this morning, the first animal that came to mind was the sloth and went to find out about it.
A sloth isn’t lazy as some people might think because they spend most of their lives in trees and rarely move. Yet they do move. They move with intention. Everything they do is with purpose. They don’t rush, they don’t blend in with the crowd, they are steady and purposeful.
When I think about my life, it’s always been with purpose. I never tried to blend in. I always told myself I move against the flow at my own speed. My rhythm might seem off to others, my drumbeat doesn’t match the rest of the orchestra. My pace isn’t fast. I’m not in this race to win a prize, at least not the prize man gives out. Instead, I’m in this race to win the prize of the upward call in Christ Jesus. To do that, I need to slow down and listen. I need to move at His pace, not the world’s. I need to be intentional in everything I do. That’s what a sloth does. It moves with intention at its own pace.
