Many people go through life believing they don’t sin. They’ve never done anything blatantly wrong that would bring them before a court of law. If they’ve done nothing wrong deserving imprisonment, they’re an okay person and believe they will go to their version of the hereafter when they die, or if they don’t believe in a hereafter, that their body will just go into the ground when they die and that will be the end of their life.
Solomon knew evil existed in the world and there would be payment for sin. Every year he and the rest of Israel went to the temple on the day of atonement to have the priests perform the ritual of covering their sins so they could find favor with JEHOVAH again. Only through blood could they atone for their sins.
When you accepted Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios, you asked Him to remove your sins through His shed blood on the cross. You recognized you were a sinner and that you sinned every day.
Romans 3:19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and the world may become guilty before Theos. 20 Therefore, by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21 However, now the righteousness of Theos apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of Theos, through faith in Iesous Christos, to everyone and on everyone who believe. For there is no difference; 23 for everyone has sinned and fallen short of the glory of Theos, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption in Christos Iesous, 25 whom Theos set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance Theos had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Iesous.
Everyone sins every day. You might not realize it when you sin because it doesn’t stand out as having done anything truly bad. However, the Word doesn’t lie. Everyone sins and falls short of Theos’ glory.
Romans 5:6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christos died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But Theos demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christos died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we will be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to Theos through the death of His Huios, much more, having been reconciled, we will be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in Theos through our Kurios Iesous Christos, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. 12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to every man, because everyone sinned.
Your sin brings only death. You need to put away your sin and there is only one way to do that — not by covering it up as the Israelites did before Yeshuwa died on the cross, but by confessing your sin so that His blood will remove them, not only cover them.
Romans 6:15 What then? Will we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! 16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But Theos be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. 20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of Theos, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of Theos is eternal life in Christos Iesous our Kurios.
Romans 10:8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Kurios Iesous and believe in your heart that Theos has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
You have only one thing left to do — not so your sins will be covered, but so that your sins will be removed — confess your sins and Yeshuwa will forgive you and cleanse you from every unrighteous thought and action.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from every unrighteousness.
Let’s pray: Father, I am a sinner. Everyday I do something that brings shame to myself as Your child. Forgive me, cleanse me by Your blood, shed on Calvary’s cross, so that I might stand before You covered in Your Son’s blood, forgiven and set free from my shame and guilt. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
