Day 63 – Peace

Proverbs 16:12 It is an abomination for kings to commit wickedness, for a throne is established by righteousness. 13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and they love him who speaks what is right. 14 As messengers of death is the king’s wrath, but a wise man will appease it.

For thousands of years kings have ruled the earth and for thousands of years kings have gone to war against their neighbors. As the map has expanded, so has the reach of war. Kings send ambassadors to negotiate terms of peace. The manufacturer of dynamite, Alfred Nobel, created prizes in different categories for the person who excelled in their field of expertise, including that of peace. The peace prize has been awarded a few times in my lifetime, but not often.

Solomon knew JEHOVAH established the thrones of the nations, not only the throne of Israel. Though his reign was peaceful, he saw what war did during his father’s reign. He also knew that wickedness in the heart of the ruler would only lead to war. Negotiators who spoke for peace delighted kings. It took a wise man to appease the king’s wrath and bring peace to the nation. Solomon also knew that only the righteousness of JEHOVAH would bring about peace.

When you read the Bible, you see how JEHOVAH hates war and wants peace. It’s a central theme throughout the Bible and throughout Jewish history. Yeshuwa told the people when He returns, He will bring peace and the world would know true peace for the first time since creation.

What are you doing to promote peace in your life? As Christians, you are to seek peace. You are to live peaceful lives as much as you can with your neighbors.

Yeshuwa knew what His teachings would do to people. Instead of peace, division would rise in families and people would be divided between each other. The gospel divides. It doesn’t bring peace but a sword.

Matthew 10:16 “Behold, I send you out as sheep amid wolves. Therefore, be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. 17 Beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues. 18 You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 19 When they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should say. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; 20 for it is not you who speak, but the Pneuma of your Pater who speaks in you. 21 Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise against parents and cause them to be put to death. 22 You will be hated by everyone for My name’s sake. He who endures to the end will be saved. 23 When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Huios of Anthropos comes. 24 A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household! 26 Therefore, do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed and hidden that will not be known. 27 Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. 28 Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Pater’s will. 30 The very hairs of your head are numbered. 31 Do not fear; therefore, you are of more value than many sparrows. 32 Therefore, whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Pater who is in heaven. 33 Whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Pater who is in heaven. 34 Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. He who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 He who does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. 40 He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. 41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. 42 Whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”

Everything Yeshuwa taught brought peace to the person who accepted Him as Soter and Kurios.

John 14:25 These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 The Parakletos, the Hagios Pneuma, whom the Pater will send in My name, He will teach you everything and bring to your remembrance everything I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

The world does not understand the kind of peace Yeshuwa brought. They see it as condemning, which it is because it convicts the heart and separates those who love Yeshuwa from those who condemn Him. Yeshuwa’s peace also draws men to Him and shows them a better way.

Romans 14:16 Therefore, do not let your good be spoken of as evil; 17 for the kingdom of Theos is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Hagios Pneuma. 18 For he who serves Christos in these things is acceptable to Theos and approved by men. 19 Therefore, let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.

War happens because people do not want peace, they do not want to negotiate, they want to subject people to lives of chaos and ruin. It’s what Satan does in the hearts of people to keep them from the peace Yeshuwa offers everyone who acknowledge Him as Soter and Kurios.

Let’s pray: Father, let Your peace live in my life so that I will live in peace with those around me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
