This is me at the age of five. I didn’t start wearing glasses until first grade.
When I was five, I wanted to be a nurse. As I grew older, I thought about other things I might do with my life, but I always wanted to be a nurse. It did and didn’t happen.
When I graduated from high school they offered a course through the hospital for nurse’s aide. I took the course. It was ten weeks and I aced the course and worked as an aide for one year at a Lutheran Home for slow people and at the local hospital. Then I went into the Navy, fully expecting to become a Corpsman. That didn’t happen. I missed Corps school by five points on the GCT ARI test. I missed radio school, my second option by one point. The Navy sent me OJT to a command where I worked in the radio department.
My love of nursing never quit, though I have learned I would not have done well as a nurse with my fear of needles. I don’t think I could give anyone a shot. Though there are LPNs who don’t administer shots, and it was a thought, but I got married and then the idea of becoming a nurse fell by the wayside.
