Day 76 – Prayer

Proverbs 16:33 The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from JEHOVAH.

  • God’s names:
  • JEHOVAH/YAHWEH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Kurios – Supreme Authority, Lord
  • God’s character:
  • Judge

Every day people play the lottery, spend their time and money gambling for the chance to win lots of money. It’s an addiction that has swept across the world like a plague. People can’t wait to buy the next lottery ticket or put money in the slot machines. What does it buy them? Certainly not peace of mind.

Solomon knew what the lot did for Israel. The priests would cast the lot — the Urim and Thummim — for YAHWEH’S decision on various matters for His people.

Exodus 28:30 “And you will put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim, and they will be over Aaron’s heart when he goes in before YAHWEH. So, Aaron will bear the judgment of the children of Israel over his heart before YAHWEH continually.

After Yeshuwa’s resurrection, the disciples cast the lot to know who would take Judas’s place among them.

Acts 1:23 And they proposed two: Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. 24 And they prayed and said, “You, O Kurios, who know the hearts of everyone, show which of these two You have chosen 25 to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.” 26 And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Today, Christians pray to know Yeshuwa’s will in important matters. It is not a game of chance, but a matter of prayer, of seeking to know Yeshuwa’s heart when the road before them is uncertain.

What do you do when life takes a turn, when Satan comes in like a flood to destroy your relationship with Yeshuwa? Do you turn to Him in prayer? Do you humble yourself before Him until you know His plan for you? Many Christians pray the one and done prayer. They don’t wait on Yeshuwa until they get an answer. They make their request, get off their knees, and continue doing what they did before they prayed, even forgetting that they prayed because they see no change in their circumstances.

When you pray, you need to wait for the answer. Your prayer is important to Yeshuwa. However, when you treat your prayer as unimportant, so will He. You won’t find any change in your life because you didn’t wait for His answer.

2 Chronicles 7:14 “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (NKJV)

You need to seek His face when you pray. You need to come to Him with intention to know His answer and His will for your situation. Prayer is not one and done. Prayer is continual.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 pray without ceasing, (NKJV)

Don’t come to Yeshuwa with a one and done attitude. Go to Him with intention to see His will for your life. Seek His face. Wait for your answer. Don’t treat prayer like a game of chance. Treat prayer like the most important part of your life. Wait for your answer.

Let’s pray: Father, forgive me for not waiting for Your answer when I pray. Help me to wait for You and not treat prayer like a game of chance, but as the most important part of my relationship with You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
