Day 77 – Peace
Proverbs 17:1 Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife.
- God’s names:
- Adonay – God’s proper name
- Yeshuwa – Jesus
- God’s character:
- Peace
How often do people gather with their families for holiday meals and the only thing they have for dinner is bickering and indigestion?
You can hear Solomon’s longing for a quiet meal with his family. Strife seemed to be on the menu at every meal. He longed for those quiet moments. You can hear his prayer to Adonay for peace and quiet.
Christians should bring peace to the dinner table. Yet among your family members are those who would rather dispute your Christianity, than have a calm meal with joy.
I hope I’m not the only one who went home with indigestion after a holiday meal. The main reason for my indigestion was the accusations that spilled from my parents’ mouths. Accusations about my politics and accusations about my Christianity.
It is hard to live at peace with your family members, when someone is always itching for a fight.
Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. (NKJV)
Romans 14:19 Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. (NKJV)
You cannot edify one another if someone is determined to bring accusations to the dinner table. In every situation, you need to seek Yeshuwa before you go to dinner. Ask Him to guide the conversation and keep a guard on your mouth so you do not escalate the situation. Then maybe indigestion won’t follow you home.
Let’s pray: Father, help me to live in peace with everyone. When strife wants to have dinner with me, give me words of peace and quiet my soul. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
