Day 79 – Refining Fire

Proverbs 17:3 The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, but YAHWEH tests the hearts.

People face trouble every day. Sometimes it feels like a continuous battle as they go from one crisis to another.

Solomon likened the trouble people face to a refining pot for silver and a furnace for gold. Silver is put through the refining pot until they can see their reflection in the silver. The same is true for gold. He then said the heart was YAHWEH’S refining pot and furnace. He tests the heart for purity. YAHWEH judges the motives of the heart.

When you said yes to Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios, He put you in a refining pot to prove your motives and the purity of your heart. The trouble you face because you call yourself a Christian is not to tear you down but to refine you. How you face each situation that comes against you will show the depth of your relationship with Yeshuwa.

Christians often refer to their problems as the trials of Job or their lot in life. Everyone who accepts Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios, comes with baggage that needs to be taken care of to move through the relationship to become the man or woman Yeshuwa knows they can be. He does the refining. You know the problems you faced when you said yes to Yeshuwa. You know your addictions, your strengths and weaknesses. Satan knows them too and will exploit your addictions and weaknesses for his pleasure.

When Yeshuwa became your Soter and Kurios, it didn’t automatically free you of every addiction in your life, every weakness, every bad habit. You weren’t suddenly free of every problem in your life. You told Yeshuwa your life belonged to Him and He set about refining you. When each weakness became a strength, when you eliminated each bad habit, when you faced each problem and turned it over to Yeshuwa, He made you into the person He knew you could become, but only through the refining process. Sometimes it felt like you were in a furnace. Yeshuwa’s refining process felt like you would never come through it, and then you woke up one day and your heart felt clean and pure.

Christians go through the refining fire every day because every day, Satan brings more trouble your way. He knows the area you haven’t touched yet, the one area the refining fire hasn’t reached.

1 Peter 1:6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Iesous Christos, 8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith — the salvation of your souls.

Psalm 66:10 For You, O Elohiym, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined.

Isaiah 48:9 “For My name’s sake I will defer My anger, and for My praise I will restrain it from you, so that I do not cut you off. 10 Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. 11 For My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it; for how should My name be profaned? And I will not give My glory to another.

When you sing the song, I Surrender All, do you mean it or are they only words and you don’t feel the conviction of surrendering everything to Yeshuwa?

What areas haven’t you surrendered yet? What is still needed for the refining fire and furnace? Surrender those areas today and watch Yeshuwa turn your life into a life of purity He can use for His glory.

Let’s pray: Father, every day Your refining fire touches my life. Refine me, test me, prove me. Make my life an instrument of your glory, ready to be used for Your purpose. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
