Day 297 – Judgment
1 Kings 2:1 Now the days of David drew near that he should die, and he charged Solomon his son, saying, 2 “I go the way of the earth; be strong, therefore, and prove yourself a man. 3 Keep the charge of JEHOVAH your Elohiym: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in everything you do and wherever you turn; 4 so that JEHOVAH may fulfill His word which He spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons take heed to their way, to walk before Me in truth with their entire heart and with their entire soul, you will not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’ 5 Moreover, you also know what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner and Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed. He shed the blood of war in peacetime and put the blood of war on his belt around his waist, and on his sandals on his feet. 6 Therefore, do according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray hair go down to the grave in peace. 7 However, show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among those who eat at your table, for so they came to me when I fled from Absalom your brother. 8 See, you have with you Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite from Bahurim, who cursed me with a malicious curse on the day when I went to Mahanaim. However, he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by JEHOVAH, saying, ‘I will not put you to death with the sword.’ 9 Now, therefore, do not hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man and know what you ought to do to him; but bring his gray hair down to the grave with blood.”
10 Then David rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David.
11 The period David reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years he reigned in Hebron, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years.
12 Then Solomon sat on the throne of his father David; and his kingdom was firmly established.
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Elohiym – Supreme God
Yeshuwa – Jesus
Theos – Supreme Divinity
God’s character:
Promise Keeper
Judge
Many people believe they can do whatever they want without facing the consequences of their behavior. They don’t realize a day of reckoning comes to everyone.
David neared death and charged Solomon to walk in integrity before JEHOVAH and bring judgment against those who killed innocent people and cursed him when he fled from Absalom. He told Solomon to act with wisdom in everything he did.
When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, He charged you to act with wisdom and integrity in everything you do for Him and the gospel. Yet many Christians believe they can call themselves Christians and act like the world.
Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Will we continue in sin that grace may abound?
2 Certainly not! How will we who died to sin live any longer in it?
You have a responsibility to the gospel and Yeshuwa to love one another as He loved you and not act like the world around you. You are not supposed to fit in but separate yourselves from the world so the world will know you are Christians.
John 15:18 “If the world hates you, you know it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
David charged Solomon to act with wisdom and integrity regarding Joab and Shimei because of their actions against the throne. When you act with integrity and wisdom in everything you do, people will know you are Christians. He also charged Solomon to show favor to the sons of Barzillai because he showed him favor when he fled from Absalom. People will note everything you do and judge you according to your actions whether they show the wisdom and integrity of a child of Elohiym or act like the world.
You have another Judge who will judge you according to your actions as a child of Elohiym. If you escape judgment for your actions in the world, you will not escape JEHOVAH’S judgment. Your sin will always find you out. The only thing you can do when you sin is to confess it and ask for JEHOVAH’S forgiveness with a repentant heart and He will forgive you and remember your sins no more.
Joab and Shimei believed they had escaped judgment because David did not execute them for their crimes against the throne. Yet David charged Solomon to take care of the matter. There is no escape from JEHOVAH’S judgment.
You know you are a sinner and fall short of Yeshuwa’s glory. Confess your sins and He will forgive you.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of Theos,
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (NKJV)
Don’t let another moment pass without confessing your sins before Elohiym. The consequences are eternal.
Let’s pray: Father, forgive me. I know I am a sinner deserving Your judgment. Purify and cleanse my heart and forgive me for my actions against You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
