Daily writing prompt
What do you complain about the most?

I need to think about this. I’m not a complainer. Though I know I complain on occasion.

I have annoyances more than complaints. When I see someone acting without common sense, it makes me shake my head and wonder what they were thinking, but I don’t complain about it unless it’s a mind-blowing action on their part.

I think my biggest complaint comes from the current generation and their disregard for manners and authority. I grew up in a time of respect for elders. You didn’t talk back. You did what you were told. End of story, unless you wanted to defy the authority and feel the consequences. The generation today has no fear from authority. They know they can talk back, be disrespectful without consequences. Their manners are obnoxious. Their language is horrendous. They do whatever they want to whomever they want without consequence. However, if someone decides to punish their actions they rebel boisterously about mistreatment all the way to a prison cell.

I grew up in a time of respect. People didn’t shoot their teachers or each other. I said the pledge of allegiance at the beginning of every school day. I went to church on Sunday and obeyed those in authority over me. I knew the consequences. I felt those consequences when I misbehaved. It was a learning point in my life.

People aren’t like that today. The only person people care about is themselves. If they don’t like something, they let people know it, usually with a gun.

We need to return to a time of moral regard for our fellowman. We need to treat others the way we want to be treated, and not treat others the way they treat us. Jesus said it this way: Matthew 7:12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (NKJV)

When you obey the golden rule, treating others like you want to be treated, you will smile more, and enjoy a better night’s sleep.

Thank you for reading.

I’m so glad you mentioned the “Golden Rule,” in your response! It was such a reminder of how to treat others as I was growing up.

It sounds like your childhood was a lot like mine. I recall the Pledge of Allegiance, quoting from Psalms& the Lord’s Prayer, in our daily morning devotions at my public elementary school.

Kindness matters so much. People seem to forget that.
