What were your parents doing at your age?

My parents loved to camp and fish. They continued that until they could no longer go camping and fishing due to health issues. My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in her 70s. Dad’s eyesight got bad so doing what they loved most became difficult.

This is truly bittersweet, Valerie. Watching your parents’ favorite pastime fade away due to health issues must have been difficult. Alzheimer’s is a cruel disease, robbing your mother of her precious memories and your father of his independence. As we age, the realization of mortality becomes ever more stark.

Yet their love for camping and fishing—those wonderful memories—remain as a part of their legacies, and I hope they can bring you comfort and smiles.

Thank you. It was sad to watch my parent’s health disintegrate like that.
