There was a time in my life when I didn’t want to be around anyone and the only friend I had in the world was myself. People hurt with words and actions. So, I kept to myself. I loved the lonely life. Being socialable was painful.
Then one day I stepped into life with both feet. I accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, and I started making friends who didn’t hurt me. They accepted me with all my faults. The saying goes, A friend is a person who knows you and loves you anyway.
In no particular order are the pictures above of friends and family.
- My friend Cheri and me on my birthday last year. She’s a wonderful person. She would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it.
- My children, Shiloh and Edgar on Mother’s Day a few years ago.
- My sister, Vickie and brother-in-law, Steve, on my birthday last year.
- My neighbors, Sarah with her husband also at my birthday party last year.
- Stacie, my son’s significant other. They’re talking about marriage. I hope so.
- My son, Edgar
- My best friend Debbie and fellow writer on Halloween this past year. She also heads Rock Painting at the ADRC. We’ve been friends since I started in Writer’s Guild.
- Barbara and Gail with me at the Winter Market this year. Both are authors and Gail is also a playwrite, having had her plays produced.
- My good friend, Pam, who lives down the hall from me. This was on her birthday a couple of years ago.
- Rita and me at a conference last September. We had so much fun!
- My brother, Roy and me at my parent’s Christmas party about 20 years ago.
These people aren’t afraid to tell me like it is. They listen and offer advice when asked and even when it’s not asked for. I also take care of their dogs, Pam’s and Sarah’s when they need watching.
Friendship isn’t one-way. Both people need to give as well as take or you won’t have friends.
Proverbs 18:24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. (NKJV)
My absolute best friend, I don’t have a picture of and that’s my Friend, Jesus. I only have friends because He’s my friend.
Thanks for reading. The images belong to me – friends and family. I couldn’t live the good life without them in it.
