What do you think gets better with age?

As things age, they become antiques as seen in the photo above from a museum I visited on Washington Island a few years ago. It was fun to walk through the museum and see the relicts of yesteryear. However, not everything that ages becomes obsolete.

Wine gets better with age. So does cheese. Food eaten the second day always tastes better than the first day. Then there’s people.

On the outside, you can say people either aged well because of their appearance or they didn’t. However, aging well has nothing to do with appearance, but with maturity.

As we grow from infant to adult and into our senior years we hope we’ve matured well. We’re not the silly children of our youth with impossible dreams. However, some of those impossible dreams also get better as they mature along with our shoe size.

We grow in knowledge and understanding. We gain wisdom and have a greater respect for those who went before. We realize our parents weren’t stupid, they were mature. We no longer see the world as lopsided and we as know-it-alls. We think before we speak, at least I hope I do.

Proverbs 20:29 The glory of young men is their strength, And the splendor of old men is their gray head. (NKJV)

We get better with age.

Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me.
