Day 233 – Expectant
Psalm 119:129 PE. Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore, my soul keeps them.
130 The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
131 I opened my mouth and panted, for I longed for Your commandments.
132 Look upon me and be merciful to me, as Your custom is toward those who love Your name.
133 Direct my steps by Your word and let no iniquity have dominion over me.
134 Redeem me from the oppression of man, that I may keep Your precepts.
135 Make Your face shine upon Your servant and teach me Your statutes.
136 Rivers of water run down from my eyes, because men do not keep Your law.
God’s names:
Yeshuwa – Jesus
Elohiym – Supreme God
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
God’s character:
Merciful
Redeemer
Teacher
Why do you do the things you do? What drives your motives?
The psalmist noted how wonderful Elohiym’s testimonies were and wanted to keep them. He saw how JEHOVAH’S words gave understanding to the simple. He wanted His mercy because he knew JEHOVAH was merciful to everyone who loved His name. Everything the psalmist wanted showed his devotion to JEHOVAH. He wanted Elohiym to teach him and shine His face on him. He loved JEHOVAH so much that it caused him to cry because men didn’t keep His law.
What about you? Many Christians don’t know what the Law holds because they don’t believe it’s relevant for today since Yeshuwa fulfilled the Law with His death on the cross. However, those same people don’t open their Bibles to read what Yeshuwa did for them. They are Christians in name only with no fruit and nothing that would tell people they’re Christians.
Do people know you’re a Christian? Do you spend time with Yeshuwa so that your soul longs to spend time with Yeshuwa? Does your soul look forward to the moment you open Yeshuwa’s Word so you can learn from Him? Do you let others know what Yeshuwa did for you?
The psalmist longed for everything JEHOVAH could give him because he saw what was his when he read the Law. Do you know what Yeshuwa promised you? Does your soul long for Him?
If Christians spent more time reading the Word, churches would be full every week. Bible studies would be well attended. Their souls wouldn’t be hungry for a morsal of Yeshuwa’s Word. It would be full and expectant.
Where do you fall in your Christianity? Is your soul full to overflowing? Or is it lean and starving? Let the psalmist’s example of longing for JEHOVAH’S Word, be your longing for His Word. Let his compassion for the lost, be your compassion until every lost soul knows Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord.
Let’s pray: Father, fill me to overflowing with Your Word. Give me a heart of compassion for the lost to know You. When people see me, let them know I belong to You. Give my soul a longing to know You and Your Word. Feed me, Lord, with Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
