Day 264 – Praise

Psalm 145:1 (A Praise of David.) I will extol You, my Elohiym, O Melek; and I will bless Your name forever and ever. 2 Every day I will bless You, and I will praise Your name forever and ever. 3 Great is JEHOVAH, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable. 4 One generation will praise Your works to another and will declare Your mighty acts. 5 I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works. 6 Men will speak of the might of Your awesome acts, and I will declare Your greatness. 7 They will utter the memory of Your great goodness and will sing of Your righteousness. 8 JEHOVAH is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy. 9 JEHOVAH is good to everyone, and His tender mercies are over His works.

10 Your works will praise You, O JEHOVAH, and Your saints will bless You. 11 They will speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your power, 12 to make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures throughout every generation. 14 JEHOVAH upholds those who fall and raises those who are bowed down. 15 The eyes of everyone look expectantly to You, and You give them their food in due season. 16 You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. 17 JEHOVAH is righteous in His ways, gracious in His works. 18 JEHOVAH is near to everyone who calls upon Him, to those who call upon Him in truth. 19 He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. 20 JEHOVAH preserves those who love Him, but the wicked He will destroy. 21 My mouth will speak the praise of JEHOVAH, and everyone will bless His holy name Forever and ever.

Every day you hear people extol the virtues of those who do great things for their fellow man. You might have done so for those you admire.

David lavished praise and blessings on JEHOVAH. What kind of praise did David give JEHOVAH? David used several words to describe praise.

  1. T@hillah – pronounced teh-hil-lah meaning a hymn of praise
  2. Halal – a primitive root; to be clear (orig. of sound, but usually of color); to shine; hence, to make a show, to boast; and thus to be (clamorously) foolish; to rave; causatively, to celebrate; also to stultify:–(make) boast (self), celebrate, commend, (deal, make), fool(- ish, -ly), glory, give (light), be (make, feign self) mad (against), give in marriage, (sing, be worthy of) praise, rage, renowned, shine.
  3. Shabach – a primitive root; properly, to address in a loud tone, i.e. (specifically) loud; figuratively, to pacify (as if by words):–commend, glory, keep in, praise, still, triumph.
  4. Yadah – a primitive root; used only as denominative from 3027; literally, to use (i.e. hold out) the hand; physically, to throw (a stone, an arrow) at or away; especially to revere or worship (with extended hands); intensively, to bemoan (by wringing the hands):–cast (out), (make) confess(-ion), praise, shoot, (give) thank(-ful, -s, -sgiving).

From Strong’s Concordance

David said everything praised JEHOVAH, not only those who worshiped Him, but His entire creation praised Him.

How often do you praise Yeshuwa for His mighty acts in your life? How often do you boast about His goodness to you? Look at the meanings of praise. Do you demonstrate praise in any of those ways? When you see someone praising Yeshuwa in any of those ways, what do you think of the person?

When David brought the Ark of Elohiym back to Jerusalem, his wife, Michal, condemned his joyful dancing as shameless and rebuked his behavior before the people.

2 Samuel 6:20 Then David returned to bless his household. Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious was the king of Israel today, uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the base fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”

21 Then David said to Michal, “It was before JEHOVAH, who chose me instead of your father and his entire house, to appoint me ruler over the people of JEHOVAH, over Israel. Therefore, I will play music before JEHOVAH. 22 I will be even more undignified than this and will be humble in my own sight. However, as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor.”

However you praise Yeshuwa, you honor Him and worship Him for everything He does for you. The world might condemn you for your shameless display of praise, but Yeshuwa will receive your praise and bless you even as you bless Him.

Don’t be afraid to display your praise to Yeshuwa. Get loud, get boisterous, get boastful, sing hymns. Let your praise come into His tabernacle in heaven and bless His name.

Let’s pray: Father, too often I let the world influence how I praise You. Take my fear away from me and let my praise come boisterously before Your throne. Let my praise become loud and boastful. Fill me with Your praise and I will shout from the rooftops everything You do for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
