Daily writing prompt
Have you ever performed on stage or given a speech?

Yes, I’ve performed on stage and given a speech.

My debut performance happened in first grade. We gave a farm skit for our parents. We wore paper bags on our heads for the various animals we represented. I was a pig.

My second and last performance was in the senior class play Touch of Heaven. I had two lines.

I was also on television in the earliest version of Romper Room. We lived right around the corner from the television station. We sat around in a semi circle and were handed a stick horse when it was our turn to talk. That’s all I remember about that. I don’t even know how old I was – preschool. When I was in fifth to eighth grades, I was part of the choir. We sang at the television studio during the holidays.

Speeches

I took speech class in high school which meant giving speeches. I’m not good at standing in front of people and talking, even when I know them. I shake uncontrollably. Since high school, I’ve given many speeches, mostly in church with the same results. I needed to hang onto the podium so it didn’t look like I was shaking, but everyone knew it. Even reading at Writer’s Guild is shaky and I tend to race through what I’m reading.

I was in the cast of The Music Man in high school, not a speaking role, just one of the townspeople. Loved every minute of it! Was also in a couple of plays. These days I go and talk to women’s groups about my books any time I am invited.

Only every now and then. I don’t have the time to put into promoting myself and my books that I used to.
