Day 67 – Humble Spirit

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. 19 Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

  • God’s names:
  • JEHOVAH/YAHWEH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
  • Theos – Supreme Divinity
  • Kurios – Supreme Authority
  • Pater – Father
  • Hagios Pneuma – Sacred, Holy, Violent Wind, Breath, Spirit
  • God’s character:
  • Humble
  • Grace
  • Favor

People take pride in many things: their spouses, children, work, achievements, things they own, and the things they do for recreation. Books, television, movies, even old-time radio programs promoted the idea of pride. Most show how pride destroys a life rather than showing the humble side of a person’s nature.

Solomon saw what pride did to people, it made them arrogant. He said it was better to be humble than to be proud.

What do you do when you see someone coming your way who only wants to boast about their achievements and where they went on vacation and the many different toys they have? You avoid them as much as possible. You don’t want to hear that they just bought the latest vehicle with all the bells and whistles, or where they went on their vacation. You don’t want to hear them boast about their achievements or work promotions. People like that want to rub their noses in what they did because they know the people they talk to can’t do what they did. Nobody is as good or as knowledgeable as they are. They expect the best and will settle for nothing less than the best in everything.

What is the one thing many Christians do that makes a person want to achieve greatness in Christian circles? They promote a prosperity gospel. Well-known evangelists will tell you, you don’t need to live in poverty. It’s not the Christian way. They tell you to buy into what they’re selling. Their ministry becomes an ad for wealth and prosperity and if you sow your precious money into their ministry, you will become as wealthy as they are.

Christianity doesn’t work that way. Instead, Solomon said pride goes before destruction. Everything you boast about will become dust. You will tumble from the top rung of the ladder of life and find yourself looking up at the other so-called Christian achievers.

When Solomon read YAHWEH’S Law, he saw how a humble spirit brought more blessings on a person’s life than boasting about one’s achievements. Boasting destroyed lives, where a humble spirit gave life.

What kind of Christian are you? Do you have the mind of Christos? Or do you have the world’s mind and run after fame and fortune with both hands clutching at everything they can get?

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christos Iesous, 6 who, being in the form of Theos, did not consider it robbery to be equal with Theos, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore, Theos also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Iesous every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Iesous Christos is Kurios, to the glory of Theos the Pater.

James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of Kurios, and He will lift you up.

1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “Theos resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 6 Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of Theos, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Yeshuwa will exalt you when you humble yourselves under His mighty hand. You will find grace, favor, and blessings in your life when you become obedient to Him. You will find when you do, others will see your humble attitude and your achievements done in Yeshuwa’s name and will lift you to the place Yeshuwa has for you. You don’t need to do anything more than be obedient to Him.

Christianity is not for sale. It is God’s gift to everyone who calls on His name and names Him Soter and Kurios of their lives.

Ephesians 2:4 But Theos, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christos (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christos Iesous, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christos Iesous. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of Theos, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christos Iesous for good works, which Theos prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Acts 8:9 But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery in the city and astonished the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great, 10 to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the great power of Theos.” 11 And they heeded him because he had astonished them with his sorceries for a long time.

14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of Theos, they sent Peter and John to them, 15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Hagios Pneuma. 16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of Kurios Iesous. 17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Hagios Pneuma. 18 And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Hagios Pneuma was given, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Hagios Pneuma.” 20 But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of Theos could be purchased with money! 21 You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of Theos. 22 Repent therefore of this your wickedness and pray Theos if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.” 24 Then Simon answered and said, “Pray to Kurios for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.”

Money will never buy your way into heaven or give you blessings. Only a humble obedient spirit will receive grace, favor, and blessings from Yeshuwa.

Let’s pray: Father, give me a humble obedient spirit who looks to You for favor and blessings. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Very good study. I’m trying very hard to detach myself as much as I’m able from the world.
