Day 94 – Understanding
Proverbs 17:18 A man devoid of understanding shakes hands in a pledge and becomes surety for his friend.
- God’s names:
- YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
- Soter – Savior
- Kurios – Supreme Authority, Lord
- Theos – Supreme Divinity
- Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
- God’s character:
- Understanding
- Wisdom
When a person wants to purchase a big-ticket item, they need to have good credit. If they don’t, the company will require a co-signer before they give the person what they want. People will seek friends and family members to co-sign for them. When they agree, they make themselves libel for the purchase of item if the buyer defaults on the payment.
Solomon told the people not to shake hands in a pledge. Doing so made them surety for other people’s purchases. Instead, they were to rely on YAHWEH to supply them with everything they needed.
The same concept is true for Christians. Christians are told to pray about the direction Yeshuwa wants them to go in their life. Not everyone can take the message of the gospel to the world. It takes funds to do so. Missionaries seek support from churches to go where Yeshuwa is sending them.
You might tell yourself; it’s not the same thing. You’re not buying a house or car; you’re taking the gospel to the world. You’re doing the Great Commission. Surely, there’s a difference. Yeshuwa will honor what you want to do for Him. Be careful you aren’t going ahead of Yeshuwa and His plans for you.
Satan plants traps for Yeshuwa’s people. He causes them to sit in motivational meetings that sound perfect for what Yeshuwa would want you to do with your life and service to Him. Christians become excited and forget to do the one thing they are cautioned to do from the moment they accepted Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios — pray.
Everyone is subject to the Great Commission, but not everyone is called to go physically into the world. Your mission field is your neighborhood, your workplace, wherever you find yourself. It can even be the Internet which reaches people everywhere in the world with a keystroke.
But you tell yourself what about the verse Philippians 4:19 And my Theos will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christos Iesous.
Christians use that verse to cover everything they want to do for Yeshuwa. If it sounds like something Yeshuwa would condone for you, you rush off and get pledges to go to the world. If it’s not Yeshuwa’s will for you to physically go to the world, you won’t find the finances to go where you think He’s leading you.
I fell into that trap once. I wanted to go to the mission field and do Yeshuwa’s work. I went ahead of Yeshuwa’s call on my life. I didn’t get the church endorsement or the finances. Does that mean I failed the Great Commission. No. You’re reading this right now wherever in the world you are. I’m sitting at home doing Yeshuwa’s work in my life by using the Internet.
You don’t need pledge cards or endorsements from churches to send the message of the gospel around the world. You only need a willing heart that listens to what Yeshuwa wants for you. Pray. Seek His will for you. It’s the same thing you do with everything else in your life. Yeshuwa promised to provide everything you need in your life — food, clothing, shelter, and transportation, even if that transportation is the city bus or bicycle. You don’t need to seek pledges for the fundamental things in your life. He will give you the means to fulfill the Great Commission too. You only need to pray.
What is it Yeshuwa called you to do for Him? Don’t forget to pray about it.
Let’s pray: Father, let Your will be done in my life and service to You. Help me to pray when I see or hear something that sounds like it came from You. Direct my steps in Your service. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
