Day 95 – Trustworthy
Proverbs 17:19 He who loves transgression loves strife, and he who exalts his gate seeks destruction. 20 He who has a deceitful heart finds no good, and he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil. 21 He who begets a scoffer does so to his sorrow, and the father of a fool has no joy.
- God’s names:
- YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
- Abba/Pater – Father
- Adonay – God’s proper name
- Huios – Son
- Theos – Supreme Divinity
- God’s character:
- Trustworthy
We live in a world where trust is hard to find. What do you hear when you turn on the news? Strife. Countries at war. People killing or causing trouble for their neighbors. Finding good news is getting harder every day because people don’t trust one another.
People think it was better in the old days. Was it? Solomon wrote about strife, deceit, liars, scoffers, and fools. He also said there was nothing new under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 1:1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. 2 “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher; “Vanity of vanities, everything is vanity.” 3 What profit has a man from all his labor in which he toils under the sun? 4 One generation passes away, and another generation comes; but the earth abides forever. 5 The sun also rises, and the sun goes down, and hastens to the place where it arose. 6 The wind goes toward the south and turns around to the north; the wind whirls about continually and comes again on its circuit. 7 All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full; to the place from which the rivers come, there they return. 8 All things are full of labor; man cannot express it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. 9 That which has been is what will be, that which is done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. 10 Is there anything of which it may be said, “See, this is new”? It has already been in ancient times before us.
From the beginning, people have lied, stolen, killed, and caused trouble for their neighbors, family members, coworkers, even people they don’t know. It has been a plague since Adam and Eve ate the fruit in the Garden of Eden.
Solomon knew the only person he could trust was YAHWEH. He could trust no one else.
Christians run into the same problems in the church. Finding trustworthy people is hard when people are unreliable. Those in leadership positions resort to begging people to help in various areas of the church. People say they will help and fail to show up.
What kind of life would Christians have if Yeshuwa decided not to follow through with His Abba’s plan of salvation? He saw the world of his day. Nothing had changed since creation. Is it any wonder Yeshuwa whipped the money changers in the temple porch? They were dishonest, everything Solomon wrote about. Out for their own gain and not for the worship of Adonay.
John 2:12 After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days. 13 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Iesous went up to Jerusalem. 14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangers doing business. 15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. 16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Pater’s house a house of merchandise!” 17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.”
It is because Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden that YAHWEH sent His Huios to bring salvation to the world. Yeshuwa did what no one else could do because He was without sin. He willingly went to the cross and died for you so that you could accept His love and mercy and obtain eternal life. He didn’t die because you were trustworthy. You’re not. I’m not. Nobody is trustworthy.
Romans 3:10 As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after Theos. 12 They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one. 13 Their throat is an open tomb; with their tongues they have practiced deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips; 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 destruction and misery are in their ways; 17 and the way of peace they have not known. 18 There is no fear of Theos before their eyes.”
What does that make you when you sit in church, sing songs of praise to Yeshuwa, and give lip service to Him and walk away from the service with no other thought than what you’re going to have for dinner?
Your Christian life needs to be more than lip service, more than going through the motions every day. You need to be an example to the world that there is something worth believing in and Yeshuwa is His name. Why? Because He followed through with His Abba’s plan, went to the cross, and died for you so that you could accept Him and have eternal life. He did not die for you so that you could sit on your hands and do nothing about your salvation. You do not want to hear Him say to you when you cross over from this life — “Depart from me, I never knew you.” Your Christian walk is more than going to church, singing songs, and listening to sermons. It’s DOING what Yeshuwa did. He was an example of obedience to His Abba. You need to be an example to those around you that you can be trusted to show up and do the work of the ministry.
Let’s pray: Father, forgive me for not being an example of Your love and mercy. Help me to be trustworthy in the work You called me to do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
