Day 99 – Understanding

Proverbs 18:1 A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; he rages against all wise judgment. 2 A fool has no delight in understanding, but in expressing his own heart. 3 When the wicked comes, contempt comes also; and with dishonor comes reproach.

  • God’s names:
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Elohiym – Supreme God
  • Theos – Supreme Divinity
  • Kurios – Supreme Authority
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Pater – Father
  • God’s character:
  • Wisdom
  • Understanding
  • Honor

Do you know people who think they’re ‘all that’ and won’t listen to anyone who wants to point them in a direction that will help them not derail them? Do you know people whose desires outweigh reality? They won’t listen to reason and show contempt to everyone who follows what they see as ‘the crowd’, not people who are doing what they can to help themselves grow into a well-respected person.

You know the type. You see it portrayed in movies, television shows, and in the news. They do everything they can to tell the world their ways are wrong and what they’re doing is the only right way.

Solomon saw people every day who trusted themselves and didn’t listen to reason. He knew that the only right way was found in YAHWEH’S Law. He also knew first-hand what happened to people who turned away from YAHWEH and followed his own path. He did that when he allowed his many wives to influence him with their elohiyms, He turned away from YAHWEH for a season, but he returned and realized his error.

Ecclesiastes 12:1 Remember now your Bara in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”: 2 While the sun and the light, the moon and the stars, are not darkened, and the clouds do not return after the rain; 3 in the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men bow down; when the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look through the windows grow dim; 4 when the doors are shut in the streets, and the sound of grinding is low; when one rises up at the sound of a bird, and all the daughters of music are brought low; 5 also they are afraid of height, and of terrors in the way; when the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper is a burden, and desire fails. For man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about the streets. 6 Remember your Bara before the silver cord is loosed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher shattered at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the well. 7 Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to Elohiym who gave it. — 13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear Elohiym and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. 14 For Elohiym will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

Solomon didn’t listen at first, but he did later and he returned to YAHWEH. Therefore, he could write this proverb with full authority because he lived it and returned to YAHWEH before he destroyed his life completely.

What about you? Do you call yourself a Christian and feel you are exempt from actions that will take you out of Yeshuwa’s favor? Many Christians think they have the remedy for the proper Christian walk. The problem with their remedy is that it isn’t found on Scripture. It’s found by taking Scripture apart and using it for their own purposes.

Christians who align themselves with Yeshuwa’s Word will listen to sound teaching and spend time with Him daily in Bible study and prayer.

Don’t listen to teaching that elevates the person and doesn’t focus on Yeshuwa. It will only bring about your ruin. In the end when you stand before Yeshuwa you will hear Him say, “Away from me you who practice lawlessness.”

Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Kurios, Kurios’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Pater in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Kurios, Kurios, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

When you spend your time in daily Bible study and prayer, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. You will also find Elohiym’s approval in your life.

John 8:31 Then Iesous said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to Theos, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Your Christian life is dependent on Yeshuwa. He is not dependent on you. When you stop fighting against Him and start living for Him, you will turn your life around just as Solomon did.

Let’s pray: Father, keep my focus on You and Your Word. Fill me with sound doctrine that comes directly from Your Word. Fill my soul with Your Word so that I will honor You in everything I say and do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
