Day 109 – Goals

Proverbs 18:15 The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

  • God’s names:
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Elohiym – Supreme God
  • Adonay – God’s proper name
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Theos – Supreme Divinity
  • God’s character:
  • Wisdom
  • Knowledge

One thing a teacher asks young students is what they want to be when they grow up. For the first time children put some thought into what they want to do when they grow up. Many children want to do what their parents do, some have far-reaching goals, they want to do something their parents never expected. Whatever they decide, they must get an education to acquire the knowledge for the work they want to do. With knowledge they gain wisdom. People want to do more than admire those with occupations they want to pursue, they go after their goals.

YAHWEH asked Solomon what he wanted when he became the king of Israel. He asked for wisdom and knowledge to rule the people. Elohiym granted him wisdom and knowledge. He was the wisest king in Israel’s history.

1 Kings 3:5 At Gibeon YAHWEH appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and Elohiym said, “Ask! What can I give you?” 6 Solomon said, “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7 Now, O YAHWEH my Elohiym, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. 9 Therefore, give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who can judge this great people of Yours?” 10 The speech pleased Adonay, that Solomon had asked this thing. 11 Then Elohiym said to him, “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, 12 behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor will any like you arise after you. 13 And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there will not be anyone like you among the kings all your days.

Solomon knew only YAHWEH gave wisdom and understanding to do those things he needed to do as the king of Israel.

Did you know what you wanted when you became a Christian? Or did you envy those who seemed to know the path Yeshuwa wanted for them? Yeshuwa plants the question in the heart of every believer about what they want for their lives. People grow up with expectations about their future. When they become Christians, Yeshuwa lines up His path with the hearts of new believers. The goals you had as children didn’t suddenly change when you became a Christian. Instead, Yeshuwa gave your goals more focus and understanding for the work He called you to do for Him.

Many Christians believe their calling started when they became Christians. However, Yeshuwa called them to the work He had for them the moment they were born, physically, not spiritually. When you became a Christian, He fine-tuned your desires and gave you the wisdom and knowledge to do His work. Nothing changed about your goals. The only thing that changed was who you did your work for. Your work no longer focused on you, but rather on Yeshuwa to bring Him glory in everything You do for Him.

What goals did Yeshuwa plant in your life long before you became a Christian. How are you bringing Him glory today with those goals?

1 Corinthians 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything to the glory of Theos.

Yeshuwa has a plan for your life. Work at it with the knowledge and wisdom He instilled in you.

Let’s pray: Father, help me to always do my work for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
