Day 116 – Friend
Proverbs 18:24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
- God’s names:
- Elohiym – Supreme God
- YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
- Pater – Father
- Soter – Savior
- Kurios – Supreme Authority, Lord
- God’s character:
- Friend
How many unfriendly people do you know? Do you know why they’re unfriendly? What about you? Are you unfriendly? How many friends can you rely on? Can people rely on you?
Most people have acquaintances, but not many friends. On social media, people send out friend requests. They might have many friends on social media, but how many of those friends, are truly friends?
What is the definition of a friend? Isn’t it someone you talk to at all hours. Isn’t it someone you can rely on when you need help? Isn’t it someone you can confide in? Isn’t it someone who knows everything about you and still likes you anyway?
Solomon told the people that if they wanted friends, they needed to be friendly, and not only friendly, but someone they could rely on when everything got hard.
People generally didn’t consider Elohiym as their friend, even though Solomon knew YAHWEH considered Abraham His friend and it was counted to him as righteousness.
Many Christians also fall into the unfriendly category. They keep to themselves and don’t associate with anyone. It’s hard to make friends with them. However, it’s not impossible. When you start showing a friendly attitude even to those who seem unfriendly, they might open up and you could find that friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Yeshuwa told His disciples they were no longer His servants but His friends.
John 15:14 “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Pater I have made known to you.
One of my favorite songs and the first one I learned in Vacation Bible School is What a Friend We Have in Jesus. With Yeshuwa, you can take everything to Him. He will never turn you away. He is the friend who sticks closer than a brother, the one you can depend on when everyone deserts you.
Who is your friend? If you haven’t made Yeshuwa your Soter and Kurios, then you don’t know what kind of friend He is and always will be. Trust Him today. Turn to Him not only as your Soter, but also as your Friend.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for giving me a friend in Your Son. Help me to be a friend to others as He has been to me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
