Day 120 – Acceptance

Proverbs 19:6 Many entreat the favor of the nobility, and every man is a friend to one who gives gifts. 7 All the brothers of the poor hate him; how much more do his friends go far from him! He may pursue them with words, yet they abandon him.

  • God’s names:
  • Adonay – God’s proper name
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Abba/Pater – Father
  • Theos – Supreme Divinity
  • Soter – Savior
  • Kurios – Anointed One, Messiah
  • God’s character:
  • Favor
  • Acceptance

In the first Harry Potter movie, Malfoy approaches Harry with his hand out in friendship, telling him he can tell him the right people to associate with. Harry declines and says he can decide on his own. People are born with prejudice. We show our class divide by those we associate with. People will try to make friends with those with means and status, while turning their back on those who have no prestige or wealth.

Solomon contrasted the class divide often in Proverbs, showing that Adonay doesn’t see a class divide. He accepts everyone. Throughout the Law, YAHWEH told the people they were to help the poor among them, not turn their back on them.

Yeshuwa showed the people His Abba was no respecter of persons by how He accepted everyone and ate with them. The Pharisees picked up on that when they told Him He saw no difference between the classes of people, though it was obvious to everyone that the Pharisees and rulers of the people thought they were better than everyone else.

Matthew 22:15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk. 16 And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of Theos in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men.

They wanted to twist Yeshuwa’s words and actions so they could bring an accusation to the rulers to get rid of Him. He showed them continually that they couldn’t trap Him with their cunning words and showed the people Theos accepted everyone no matter what their class status.

When you accepted Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios, you also accepted everyone in the same way Yeshuwa does with no difference. Yeshuwa welcomes everyone and is willing to sit down and eat with you and spend time with you.

Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. (NKJV)

The only requirement to sit at His table, or He at yours, is for you to accept Him. The tax collectors and sinners accepted Him and He ate with them — often. It was the biggest complaint the Pharisees had with Him because they would never eat with such people or be seen in their company.

Do you enjoy Yeshuwa’s presence at your table? Do you open His Word and eat and drink from it daily? Do you spend time with people others would deem to be the outcasts of society? You’re in good company, Yeshuwa is right there with you.

Let’s pray: Father, help me to accept everyone because You accept everyone and not turn them away because they’re not like me or I like them. You showed Your love for me when You accepted me for who I am, not what You said I should be.

Here is a song I wrote many years ago. I believe it fits today’s study.

  • Just as I Am
  • Just as I am
  • Poor, hopeless, afraid
  • Just as I am
  • A soul to save
  • Just as I am
  • The old song said
  • Just as I am
  • He gently pled
  • Just as I am
  • Be not afraid
  • Just as I am
  • My guilt He paid
  • Just as I am
  • He bled and died
  • Just as I am
  • He’s by my side
  • Just as I am
  • No longer afraid
  • Just as I am
  • I bowed my head
  • And as He said
  • He quickly came
  • And unto me
  • New life He gave
