Day 128 – Work
Proverbs 19:15 Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, and an idle person will suffer hunger. 16 He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is careless of his ways will die.

Parents continually caution children against laziness. One of the sayings many people grew up with is: Idle hands are the devil’s workshop. You need to keep yourself busy. If you don’t you will become careless in everything you do, speaking about your intentions without any thought of putting your hand to the task you boast about. Your idleness and carelessness lead to hunger and death.
Solomon saw idleness every day. People haven’t changed between then and now. Laziness was as much a problem among the people of Solomon’s day as it is now. People want things the easy way — without working for them. With what he saw and heard, Solomon told the people what would happen to them if they didn’t work. They would die.
Solomon kept himself busy. He was a landowner and king. His list of accomplishments is impressive.
Ecclesiastes 2:4 I made my works great; I built myself houses and planted myself vineyards. 5 I made gardens and orchards, and I planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. 6 I made water pools from which to water the growing trees of the grove. 7 I acquired male and female servants, and had servants born in my house. Yes, I had greater possessions of herds and flocks than all who were in Jerusalem before me. 8 I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the special treasures of kings and of the provinces. I acquired male and female singers, the delights of the sons of men, and musical instruments of all kinds. 9 So I became great and excelled more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also, my wisdom remained with me. 10 Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart rejoiced in all my labor; and this was my reward from all my labor.
Labor brings rewards, but idleness takes away those rewards. Solomon knew his rewards came from YAHWEH as did his wisdom to do everything he put his hand to, both in his vineyards and as king.
As Christians, Yeshuwa appointed you to do the work of the kingdom of Elohiym. Not only did He give you work to do, He said He did the work of His Abba.
Yeshuwa told His disciples when they were in Samaria that His meat was to do the will of His Abba.
John 4:34 Iesous said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.
Yeshuwa told the Jews who wanted to kill Him because He worked on the Sabbath, that He did His Abba’s work.
John 5:17 But Iesous answered them, “My Pater has been working until now, and I have been working.”
If Elohiym has been working since creation, and Yeshuwa worked because His Abba worked, then you need to work and not become lazy or idle, which only leads to hunger and death.
Let’s pray: Father, keep my hands busy in the work You have for me to do. I do not want to be idle or lazy, but busy for You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
