Day 132 – Kindness
Proverbs 19:22 What is desired in a man is kindness, and a poor man is better than a liar.
- God’s names:
- YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
- KURIOS/Kurios – Supreme Authority, Lord
- Theos – Supreme Divinity
- God’s character:
- Kind
- Compassionate
- Forgiving
Everyone wants people to treat them with kindness. They put people in boxes. They look at a person, the quality of their clothing, where they went to school, where they live, even their ethnicity and automatically place them as people of integrity or liars. They don’t take the time to get to know the person to find out about their character. A poor man with his integrity is better than the finest dressed person who spends his life cheating people with his wealth. Integrity doesn’t look at a person’s financial status — it looks at his character.
Solomon saw people every day. They worked in his vineyards and in the palace. He saw merchants and kings. What he saw was a person who wanted to be treated with kindness. Solomon knew the Law. He learned it first from his father, David, and then he read it for himself. In it he read how YAHWEH expected His people to treat each other. He saw YAHWEH’S character and knew it was the same character He wanted His children to be clothed with — kindness, compassion, forgiveness — what he saw was the opposite. YAHWEH told His people to treat others in the same way they wanted to be treated — with love.
Leviticus 19:18 ‘You will not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you will love your neighbor as yourself: I am YAHWEH.
When you treat others the way you want to be treated, you will show them kindness and compassion. Yeshuwa told the people what it said in the Law when someone tried to trap Him.
Matthew 22:34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Iesous said to him, ‘You shall love KURIOS your Theos with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
As Christians, when you treat others in the same way you want others to treat you, you will always show them kindness. It won’t matter whether they are rich or poor because Yeshuwa treated everyone the same way — with love and kindness.
People won’t resort to lying if they are treated with kindness.
How do you treat people? When you see them, have you already placed them in a box and labeled them? Take them out of the box, get to know them, and treat them the way you want to be treated — with love and kindness.
Let’s pray: Father, open my eyes to see others the way You see them, with love and kindness, not with judgment and unfairness. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
