Everyone has someone they answer to. For children, it’s their parents, for adults, it’s their employer, the police, those who have direct authority in your life and can affect it in good or bad ways. If you disobey your parents, you receive punishment. If you disobey the rules of your employment, you lose your job. If you break the law, you go to jail. There are always consequences to your behavior. If you remain obedient to your parents, employer, and the government, you will live a safe and happy life.
Solomon was the king in Israel. He was their direct authority. If someone disobeyed the laws of YAHWEH, as given to Moses, he had the authority to discipline those who broke the law. For an Israelite, the Law was their mirror. They either obeyed and lived in the blessings of both the king, Solomon, and the KING – YAHWEH. There was no other law in Judah and Solomon was honor bound to obey the law, the same as every Israelite.
Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: YAHWEH our Elohiym, YAHWEH is one! 5 You will love YAHWEH your Elohiym with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 And these words which I command you today will be in your heart. 7 You will teach them diligently to your children and will talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You will bind them as a sign on your hand, and they will be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You will write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Exodus 20:3 “You will have no other elohiym before Me. 4 You will not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you will not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, YAHWEH your Elohiym, am a jealous El, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
Solomon learned the Law from his father, David, and as long as he followed YAHWEH’S Law, YAHWEH showed him favor and blessed him and the kingdom. When Solomon worshiped the foreign elohiym of his many wives, he invoked YAHWEH’S wrath. Solomon knew that disobeying the King was like invoking the wrath of a mighty roaring lion — the Lion of Israel, YAHWEH.
Christians today don’t study the Law of Moses because they believe Yeshuwa freed them from the Law. There’s one very interesting thing about the Law — it was written in stone. It’s timeless. Yeshuwa is the fulfillment of the Law in that He is the one who died for the sins of the world. He is the sacrificial Lamb of every sacrifice Israel made.
John 1:29 The next day John saw Iesous coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Amnos of Theos who takes away the sin of the world!
Christians still need to obey the Law. We still have the Ten Commandments, the statutes, and ordinances of the Law for our protection and blessing. Today we have a new institution that took the place of the daily sacrifice – the bread and wine of communion. Yeshuwa instituted it on the night He was taken before the counsel and later crucified for the sins of the world. When He said, It is finished on the cross, He spoke about your redemption from sin.
John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of Theos, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of Theos.
When you read and study Yeshuwa’s Word, you know He is a Roaring Lion. He is your King. When you disobey Him, you feel His wrath. Your blessings disappear. He shows you now favor. It is only when you obey Him that you find His divine mercy in your life and know His love and faithfulness and His forgiveness.
You don’t want to disobey Theos. You obey everyone in authority over you, obey Yeshuwa too and know His blessings and favor in your life.
Let’s pray: Father, forgive me for my disobedience to You. I am a sinner. I know that and I am heartily sorry if I have done anything to bring Your wrath on my life. Your Word says You are a forgiving God when I confess my sins. Show me Your love as I stand in Your presence with the shame of my guilt wiped clean through the blood of Your Son. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
