Day 138 – Honor
Proverbs 20:3 It is honorable for a man to stop striving, since any fool can start a quarrel.
- God’s names:
- YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- Adonay – God’s proper name
- God’s character:
- Honor
Do you remember your playground days when boys especially were ready to start a fight over anything, and everyone circled around the two boys and encouraged the fight until a teacher broke it up and sent them to the principal’s office? What about today? Do you know anyone who is quick to start a quarrel? Who is the calmest person you know who never gets into a fight, stays away from quarrels and simply walks away?
Television and movies are quick to promote strife between characters. What people see on the silver screen is often played out at home. The idea that if it’s okay for Hollywood to promote fighting there can’t be anything wrong with it.
Solomon said that the most honorable thing a person could do is stop a fight or walk away from one. Nothing is gained by fighting. Solomon also knew what YAHWEH said about quarreling against Him.
Leviticus 26:14 ‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments, 15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant, 16 I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which will consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17 I will set My face against you, and you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will reign over you, and you will flee when no one pursues you. 18 And after all this, if you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. 19 I will break the pride of your power; I will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze. 20 And your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land will not yield its produce, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit. 21 Then, if you walk contrary to Me, and are not willing to obey Me, I will bring on you seven times more plagues, according to your sins. 22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which will rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and make you few in number; and your highways will be desolate. 23 And if by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me, 24 then I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins. 25 And I will bring a sword against you that will execute the vengeance of the covenant; when you are gathered within your cities I will send pestilence among you; and you will be delivered into the hand of the enemy. 26 When I have cut off your supply of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven, and they shall bring back your bread by weight, and you will eat and not be satisfied. 27 And after all this, if you do not obey Me, but walk contrary to Me, 28 then I also will walk contrary to you in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.
Solomon was saying, “Do you really want to quarrel against YAHWEH your Adonay?”
What kind of behavior do you find in the church today? Christians are quick to find fault with each other and with Yeshuwa’s Word. They interpret the Word to justify their actions. Church’s split because of disagreements. Paul told the church at Colossae how they should act between each other.
Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as the elect of Theos, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long suffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christos forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of Theos rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christos dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to Kurios. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Kurios Iesous, giving thanks to Theos the Pater through Him.
In other words, don’t fight. Don’t start a quarrel. Walk away. Bring harmony to those you associate with in church and outside it. In that way you honor Yeshuwa.
Let’s pray: Father, forgive me for fighting, starting quarrels that aren’t mine to start. Teach me to walk away and bring honor to You in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
