Day 139 – Laborer

Proverbs 20:4 The lazy man will not plow because of winter; he will beg during harvest and have nothing.

Everyone knows when planting season is, fields are plowed and farmers are planting their crops, gardeners are planting their gardens, store shelves are filled with gardening equipment and seeds. People are busy in their fields and gardens making certain their crops bring a good harvest. However, there are those who refuse to do the labor that will bring them a harvest to keep them from going hungry in winter. They are the ones who stand on street corners with signs begging for food for themselves and their pets. There are so many help wanted signs, yet people refuse to apply, they prefer handouts. Those same people stand in long lines at registers and complain that other registers aren’t open. Businesses don’t have the help they need for their business.

Solomon saw the beggars. They stood on the street corners too, begging for alms. He called them lazy and they would starve in harvest season. Solomon also knew what YAHWEH promised those faithful to Him.

Deuteronomy 28:1 “Now it will come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of YAHWEH your Elohiym, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that YAHWEH your Elohiym will set you high above all nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings will come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of YAHWEH your Elohiym: 3 Blessed will you be in the city and blessed will you be in the country. 4 Blessed will be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. 5 Blessed will be your basket and your kneading bowl. 6 Blessed will you be when you come in and blessed will you be when you go out. 7 YAHWEH will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they will come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. 8 YAHWEH will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which YAHWEH your Elohiym is giving you. 9 YAHWEH will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of YAHWEH your Elohiym and walk in His ways. 10 Then all people of the earth will see that you are called by the name of YAHWEH, and they shall be afraid of you. 11 And YAHWEH will grant you plenty of goods, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land of which YAHWEH swore to your fathers to give you. 12 YAHWEH will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. 13 And YAHWEH will make you the head and not the tail; you will be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of YAHWEH your Elohiym, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them. 14 Then you will not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right or the left, to go after other elohiyms to serve them.

Solomon knew that the only way to receive YAHWEH’S blessings was to obey Him. People who refused to obey Him became beggars and went hungry in harvest season.

Yeshuwa spoke about another kind of harvest everyone who calls themselves Christians are to partake in.

Matthew 9:37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore, pray the Kurios of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

When you do the work Yeshuwa called you to do, you will never go hungry, and you will find His blessings in every area of your life. There’s no reason to stand on street corners begging when Yeshuwa calls you to the harvest field of souls.

Let’s pray: Father, my hands are ready to do Your will. My feet are ready to go where You will send me. Send me to Your harvest field. Bless me because I am Your willing servant. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
