Proverbs 20:13 Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty; open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with bread.
- God’s names:
- YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
- Abba/Pater – Father
- God’s character:
- Provider
People love their snooze button. They hit it and roll over and go back to sleep for just few more minutes. Then there are people who are awake long before their alarms go off, ready to start the day with both feet running. Which type of person are you? Are you a doer or one who is slow to wake up in the morning?
Solomon saw the same attitude in people. He saw those who were ready to do the work and those who were constantly late for work.
One thing he understood from the Law was that YAHWEH appointed people for work, not slumber.
Proverbs 6:9 How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? 10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep— 11 so will your poverty come on you like a prowler, and your need like an armed man.
Sleep doesn’t put food on your table.
When Yeshuwa called you, He called you to work for the kingdom of His Abba. He didn’t call you to sleep, He called you to work.
James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
You will find blessings in the work you do — food on your table, and the resources to do the work.
What has Yeshuwa called you to do for the kingdom of YAHWEH? Are you doing it, or are you thinking about it while you get a little more sleep?
Let’s pray: Father, let me be ready to do Your work. Help me to rise early and hit the floor running to do Your will. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
