Day 151 – Obedience
Proverbs 20:20 Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp will be put out in deep darkness.
- God’s names:
- YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- Elohiym – Supreme God
- Kurios – Supreme Authority, Lord
- Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
- God’s character:
- Honor
What do you see when you look at the world today? Children are out of control. They have no respect for their parents, they do whatever they want, knowing there won’t be any consequences for their actions.
Solomon was well acquainted with the Law and what YAHWEH said in the Ten Commandments.
Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which YAHWEH your Elohiym is giving you.
He also saw YAHWEH’S consequences for disrespect to parents.
Deuteronomy 21:18 “If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and who, when they have chastened him, will not heed them, 19 then his father and his mother will take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his city. 20 And they will say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21 Then all the men of his city will stone him to death with stones; so you will put away the evil from among you, and all Israel will hear and fear.
Children aren’t afraid of the consequences of their actions. They laugh at their parents who can’t do anything to them.
Solomon told the people to discipline their children because doing so would bring them closer to YAHWEH.
Proverbs 13:24 He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly.
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of correction will drive it far from him.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear Elohiym and keep His commandments, for this is mans all. 14 For Elohiym will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.
Christians are under the same laws of obedience to their parents.
Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in Kurios, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
When you obey your parents, you obey Yeshuwa and He will bless your life instead of taking it from you.
People often attend funerals for people who died young. They stand around the room, teary eyed and wonder why they died so young. Nobody knows why a person dies young while others live long lives. Only Yeshuwa can answer that question. One of many reasons could be his relationship with his parents.
When Yeshuwa came, He didn’t abolish the law, He fulfilled it. The Law remained and obedience remained. When you obey your parents, you obey Yeshuwa.
Many people have hard relationships with their parents. Scripture doesn’t say you need to love your parents. It says you need to obey them. When you do, Yeshuwa will bless you.
Let’s pray: Father, help me to obey my parents even when I don’t understand them. Give me an obedient heart. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
