- God’s character:
- Inheritor
The world seems to run on greed. People feel they are entitled to whatever they want, including an inheritance before their parents die. They don’t care about the consequences of their actions as long as they get what they want.
Solomon saw the manipulation of the people to get what they wanted and told them they wouldn’t receive the blessings they hoped for without waiting for them.
People work many kinds of get rich quick schemes. They did it during Solomon’s day. But get rich quick schemes always fail because people fail to work for what they want. Solomon knew YAHWEH wanted to bless His people. He also knew there weren’t any shortcuts to YAHWEH’S blessing. People are always looking for shortcuts. They skip the part where they need to be good stewards of what they have and spend their livelihood on wanton desires and foolish living.
A baby doesn’t start to walk before he can crawl. Yet people want to skip the basics. In the manual of life, they skip over the how to and rush to the receiving. Life doesn’t work that way.
Yeshuwa told the people a parable about the Prodigal Son who demanded his inheritance before his father died. His father gave it to him. What happened? He wasn’t mature enough to receive it and spent it on wanton living until he had wasted his inheritance and he was feeding pigs.
Luke 15:11 Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. 12 “And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ Then he divided to them his livelihood. 13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. 14 But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. 15 Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. 17 But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”’ 20 And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.
Have you been feeding pigs? What did you learn from your wanton lifestyle? The Prodigal Son matured in the pigpen. He realized how he squandered his life and prepared a speech to give to his father when he returned home. The Prodigal Son returned home a changed man. He asked his father’s forgiveness and told him he was ready to live under his authority.
When you see what your lifestyle has done for your relationship with Yeshuwa, you will repent and run back to Him asking for His forgiveness and He will give it without measure.
Yeshuwa waits for the prodigal. He waits for you. When you realize the depth of your wanton behavior, you will run into His arms and beg Him to take you back. He will not hesitate to reassure you that You belong to Him. He will throw you a party and all heaven will rejoice because you were lost and have been found.
Luke 15:10 “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of Theos over one sinner who repents.”
Let’s pray: Father, forgive me for wanting to do life my way when You give me everything I need. Forgive me for thinking I don’t need You in the everyday problems of my life and believing I can work them out without You. Father, I need You. Let me find Your blessing in my obedience to You and not in my selfish behavior. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
