Day 158 – Lamp

Proverbs 20:27 The spirit of a man is the lamp of YAHWEH, searching all the inner depths of his heart.

  • God’s names:
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Elohiym – Supreme God
  • God’s character:
  • Lamp
  • Righteous

People don’t like having their secrets exposed. They put on a front, so others won’t see the real person underneath. However, the truth about a person will always come to light.

Solomon told the people that the lamp of YAHWEH, the Law of Moses, exposed the darkest places of the heart. They couldn’t hide their motives from Him.

His father’s life was an example of how closely YAHWEH searched a person’s heart.

Psalm 139:1 (For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.) O YAHWEH, You have searched me and known me. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thoughts afar off. 3 You comprehend my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O YAHWEH, You know it altogether.

What brought you to Yeshuwa? Was it when you realized you couldn’t hide anything from Him and you wanted to change? You condemned those who seemed eviler than you. However, when you put the lamp of Yeshuwa’s Word on your life, it exposed your dark places, and you saw you were no better than they.

Jeremiah 12:1 Righteous are You, O YAHWEH, when I plead with You; yet let me talk with You about Your judgments. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are those happy who deal so treacherously? 2 You have planted them, yes, they have taken root; They grow, yes, they bear fruit. You are near in their mouth but far from their mind. 3 But You, O YAHWEH, know me; You have seen me, and You have tested my heart toward You. Pull them out like sheep for the slaughter and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

When Yeshuwa exposed your heart, you wanted Him to do the same for others who walked through life with wickedness in their hearts.

People who live without regard for right and wrong don’t believe anyone will expose their secret motives. They ignore the lamp of Yeshuwa’s Word that can expose them for the person they are.

However, you felt the lamp of Yeshuwa’s love and knew He saw you — all of who you are. Nothing was hidden from Him. When you realized He saw you, your secrets, your lies, and exposed you, and your shame brought you to Him. You wanted to change. You wanted to live with nothing to hide — not from yourself or from others. Your prayer became David’s prayer: Search me and know me. See if there is any wickedness in me.

Psalm 139:23 Search me, O Elohiym, and know my heart; try me and know my anxieties; 24 and see if there is any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.

What are you trying to hide from Yeshuwa? He sees everything about you. You cannot hide from Him. His lamp will expose your darkest secrets. Instead of Him exposing them, confess them and let His love cleanse you from your wicked thoughts and ways.

Let’s pray: Father, I cannot hide anything from You. You know my thoughts and the motives that drive my life. Change my heart. Make it new. Let my life be an example of Your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
