Day 168 – Compassion

Proverbs 21:13 Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor will also cry himself and not be heard.

  • God’s names:
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Hagios Pneuma – Sacred, Holy, Violent Wind, Breath, Spirit
  • God’s character:
  • Compassionate
  • Merciful
  • Kind

The song says everyone needs compassion, the kindness of a stranger, let mercy fall on me. Yet how often do people show kindness to strangers? Is it only a song people sing but do nothing about? People have little hope for kindness today. People are single-minded, thinking only about themselves. So that when people do random acts of kindness as they’ve come to be called, even the media picks up on it and shows the public that there are kind people in the world today.

Solomon said that when you close your ears to those in need, no one would hear you in your need. He saw the need for compassion among the people. In his prayer of dedication of the temple, he built for YAHWEH he asked for His compassion for His people when they cried out for His help. What was YAHWEH’S reply to Solomon’s prayer?

2 Chronicles 7:12 Then YAHWEH appeared to Solomon by night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. 13 When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 15 Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.

YAHWEH promised Solomon that IF His people humbled themselves and turned from their wicked ways, THEN He would hear their prayers and forgive them.

Christians believe YAHWEH will have compassion on them no matter what they do. That’s not what He said. Yeshuwa told the people what they needed to do.

Matthew 7:12 “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (NKJV)

Compassion is a two-way street. You need to give compassion for Yeshuwa to have compassion on you. Too many people will take this simple verse, known as the Golden Rule, and turn it inside out, saying that they need to do to others before they do to them. It’s the law of the streets.

If you call yourself a Christian, you need to produce the fruit of the Hagios Pneuma in your lives.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Pneuma is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

This fruit shows compassion for others. It goes beyond yourself. When you go beyond yourself, Yeshuwa will pour His blessings on you.

Today, show kindness to a stranger, and watch how Yeshuwa blesses you. Do it because you want to and not because you feel compelled to so you can get Yeshuwa’s blessing. Yeshuwa blesses the heart that honors Him.

Let’s pray: Father, help me to show compassion to others because You showed compassion to me. Let kindness be the coat I always wear. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
