Day 172 – Oil

Proverbs 21:20 There is desirable treasure, and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man squanders it.

  • God’s names:
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Kurios – Supreme Authority
  • Huios of Anthropos – Son of Man
  • Soter – Savior
  • Hagios Pneuma – Sacred, Holy, Violent Wind, Breath, Spirit
  • Abba/Pater – Father
  • God’s character:
  • Wisdom

People buy treasures to look at. They hang them on walls or store them in curio cabinets and take them out only to dust them. People don’t want to use them because they consider them priceless art treasures. Having them also gives them a sense of wealth. Beyond what they bought them for; there is no value in them. For those who don’t want to impress others with their wealth and status, buy treasures to use, their use becomes oil in their lives. The one who hoards their wealth – squanders it. It’s useless. But for those who use their treasures, it becomes invaluable oil that keeps on giving the more it’s used.

Solomon knew that the most important treasure YAHWEH gave His people was the Law of Moses. Those who listened to the priests and Levites who read the Law, took it to heart and lived their lives according to YAHWEH’S Law. It was their treasure — the most important part of their lives. Their lives reflected their obedience to His Word. Those who knew YAHWEH gave them the law but did nothing to incorporate into their lives, didn’t treasure it, and therefore didn’t have the oil necessary for understanding and obedience.

Yeshuwa taught the people about the kingdom of heaven and His Abba. He told them the Parable of the Ten Virgins. Five of them were wise and kept oil in their lamps as they waited for the Bridegroom. Five were foolish who didn’t keep oil in their lamps and when the shout came that the Bridegroom was coming, their lamps had gone out.

Matthew 25:1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. 6 And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ 7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 While they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Kurios, Kurios, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Huios of Anthropos is coming.

Christians who accept Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios, but do nothing about their life in Him, squander what He gave them — the right to be called His child. They don’t go to church, study their Bible, or do anything except wear a cross around their neck and call themselves Christians. They do not have the oil of the Hagios Pneuma in their lives. They are the foolish virgins who believe that their occasionally attending church or claiming they accepted Him as their Savior will be enough to get them to heaven. It won’t. They live their lives without power.

Those Christians who open their Bibles daily, who attend church and Bible studies, regularly spend time with other believers, pray, and seek His face are wise and have the oil of the Hagios Pneuma in their lives. They don’t squander their lives, they show wisdom in their lives and people know Yeshuwa lives in their lives.

What kind of Christian are you? When was the last time you went to church, opened your Bible, prayed, sought Yeshuwa’s will for you life.

Christianity is a daily undertaking. When you stand in the doorway of eternity, will Yeshuwa invite you into heaven, or turn you away? The choice is yours.

Let the oil of the Hagios Pneuma fill your life.

2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to Theos, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Let’s pray: Father, fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Let it be as oil in my life as I spend my time in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
