Day 175 – Words

Proverbs 21:23 Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles. 24 A proud and haughty man — “Scoffer” is his name; he acts with arrogant pride.

  • God’s names:
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • God’s character:
  • Honor
  • Wisdom

How many people do you know who run off at the mouth? They brag about everything, even about things they didn’t do. Then there are people who barely talk and those who do make fun of them because they keep themselves from trouble.

Solomon met people every day in the palace and in the people, he employed on his properties. He heard the braggarts and scoffers, and he saw the quiet people who kept to themselves. Solomon also knew that a man of integrity honored YAHWEH and kept his soul from trouble.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

You honor YAHWEH with the words of your mouth. They speak life to those who hear them. You can also dishonor Him when you speak foolishly bringing death to the hearer by the words you speak.

As Christians, people hear the words you speak to others. You honor Yeshuwa when you guard what you say. You keep your soul from trouble when the words people hear from you edify and help them instead of tear them down.

James 3:2 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. (NKJV)

When you say hurtful things to others, you need to ask for forgiveness, then change your ways so you keep your mouth from evil speaking. Only then will you honor Yeshuwa in everything you say.

Let’s pray: Father, guard my mouth so that the only thing that comes out of it, honors You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
