What makes headline news? Isn’t it when celebrities or important people do something to draw attention to themselves? When tragedy hits, who makes the biggest donations? People who read the news or watch it will look at what those people are doing and call it grandstanding. It’s all for show. It’s meaningless in the eyes of common people.
Solomon saw people like that come into his courts. They proffered themselves before him, expecting accolades about their kindness, but Solomon saw through them. He saw their heart as easily as YAHWEH saw their hearts and knew that everything, they did was for their own pockets and attention. He said their actions were an abomination because they were done with a selfish heart. YAHWEH would no more accept them than he would.
Proverbs 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to YAHWEH, but the prayer of the upright is His delight.
What did Yeshuwa say about hypocrites? Didn’t He say they stood on street corners and shouted to the people everything they did to make themselves important in the eyes of the people?
Matthew 6:1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have no reward from your Pater in heaven. 2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Pater who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
People have a natural proclivity to want to be important. They want to know that what they do is important to someone. However, most people don’t want to make a show of what they do to get accolades from anyone. They want to do it to bring glory to Yeshuwa. When your actions bring Yeshuwa glory, and you have no hidden motives to lift yourself up, then Yeshuwa will bless you.
The prophet Isaiah gave a warning to the people. It’s the same warning Christians need to heed today.
Isaiah 66:1 Thus says YAHWEH: “Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? 2 For all those things My hand has made, and all those things exist,” says YAHWEH. “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word. 3 He who kills a bull is as if he slays a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as if he breaks a dog’s neck; he who offers a grain offering, as if he offers swine’s blood; he who burns incense, as if he blesses an idol. Just as they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations, 4 so will I choose their delusions, and bring their fears on them; because, when I called, no one answered, when I spoke, they did not hear; but they did evil before My eyes and chose that in which I do not delight.”
Yeshuwa delights in a contrite spirit, one that is humble before Him and will not lift himself up before men as though they were more important than anyone else. The only important person is Yeshuwa. When you delight in Him and bring Him glory by your actions. He will bless you. Nothing else will move His heart.
What are your motives when you do something you say is for Yeshuwa? What do you hope to gain. Give everything you do to Yeshuwa — the intentions of your heart — and watch Him bless you.
Let’s pray: Father, search my heart and know me and my intentions and motives. If there is any wickedness in me, cleanse my heart and give me a new heart that pleases You in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
