Day 182 – Name

Proverbs 22:1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold. 2 The rich and the poor have this in common; YAHWEH is the maker of them all.

How do you choose the names for your children? Many people give them the names of their parents or other family members. Many choose names from the Bible. Many also choose names of famous people. Everyone wants to give their children good names that show character and love.

Throughout the Bible, you see YAHWEH chose the name of the child. Solomon knew YAHWEH had given him his name.

1 Chronicles 22:6 Then he called for his son Solomon and charged him to build a house for YAHWEH Elohiym of Israel. 7 And David said to Solomon: “My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build a house to the name of YAHWEH my Elohiym; 8 but the word of YAHWEH came to me, saying, ‘You have shed much blood and have made great wars; you will not build a house for My name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in My sight. 9 Behold, a son will be born to you, who will be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around. His name will be Solomon, for I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.

YAHWEH changed Abram’s name to Abraham and named both his children, the one of promise — Isaac, and the one from the slave woman — Ishmael. Solomon lived up to the name YAHWEH gave him. He was a man of peace, and he did build the temple to YAHWEH. His life was a life of blessing and favor from YAHWEH. He said that was better than gold or silver. It didn’t matter whether you were rich or poor, YAHWEH created everyone and showed favor on those who put their trust in Him.

You might think there is nothing special about your name. You might be the only person you know with that name, or there might be many people with the same name as you. One thing you have in common with everyone in Scripture is that YAHWEH always knew your name.

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the Theos and Pater of our Kurios Iesous Christos, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christos, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Iesous Christos to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved.

Yeshuwa knew your name from the foundation of the world. He knew what kind of person you would become. He knew you would accept Him as Soter and Kurios, and He blessed you and showed you favor which is better than silver or gold.

One day you will get a new name, known only to you.

Revelation 2:17 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Pneuma says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.”’

You are Yeshuwa’s beloved. You are the apple of His eyes. His favor rests on You because He created you for His glory and praise.

When you consider what you are to Yeshuwa, does He hold the same place in your life? Do you honor Him in everything or are you more concerned about the silver and gold which has less honor than a good name — one He knew when the foundation of the world was laid?

Let’s pray: Father, thank you for my name. You knew me before I knew You. You loved me before I loved You. Help me to give You honor, glory, and praise every day of my life because I am fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
