Day 185 – Obedience

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

• Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
• Soter – Savior
• Kurios – Supreme Authority

• Teacher

From the moment we’re born we start learning. First from our parents, then teachers, then our employers. We never stop learning. Parents do their best to teach their children the difference between right and wrong, so that when they leave home, they can take their place in society with integrity.

Solomon grew up with the Law of Moses. David was diligent to teach him what YAHWEH required from him. When he became a father, he taught his children what he learned from his father.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of YAHWEH is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. 8 My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother; 9 for they will be a graceful ornament on your head, and chains about your neck.

Everything he taught his children, he learned from his father. He knew that when you trained your children to do what was right, they would keep what they learned to the end of their lives. Even if they departed from what they learned as a child, it would only be for a season, they would come back to what they were taught in the end.

Ecclesiastes 12:1 Remember now your Bara in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”:

Solomon went through a time in his life when he turned away from YAHWEH to pursue other pleasures, including the worship of false elohiyms.

1 Kings 11:1 But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites—  2 from the nations of whom YAHWEH had said to the children of Israel, “You shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you. Surely, they will turn away your hearts after their elohiyms.” Solomon clung to these in love. 3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart. 4 For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other elohiyms; and his heart was not loyal to YAHWEH his Elohiym, as was the heart of his father David. 5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 6 Solomon did evil in the sight of YAHWEH, and did not fully follow YAHWEH, as did his father David. 7 Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the hill that is east of Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the people of Ammon. 8 And he did likewise for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their elohiyms.

Solomon wasn’t perfect, he sinned against YAHWEH, but he returned to Elohiym, which is why he said in the end of Ecclesiastes:

Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear Elohiym and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. 14 For Elohiym will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

Before you said yes to Yeshuwa, you served your elohiyms. They might not have been as obvious as the false elohiyms Solomon worshiped, but they were just as deadly. People worship their job, their hobbies, whatever draws them away from Elohiym for their pleasure. When you accepted Yeshuwa, you committed to serving Him. You turned your life from one of disobedience to Elohiym, to one of obedience to Him. If you went to church as a child, the lessons from your childhood took root in you and you lived not for yourself, but for Yeshuwa. Then you saw how the training you received as a child stayed with you. You took what you learned from your parents, Sunday school teachers, and pastors, and turned your life around to follow Yeshuwa with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

For some Christians, it can take a lifetime before they find the truth about Yeshuwa or return to Him. When they return, they remain faithful because they realize it’s the only thing that matters in life — being faithful to Yeshuwa.

When did you accept Yeshuwa as your Soter and Kurios? Was it as a child or when you were an adult? Live your life fully for Him and He will always lead you on the path you should go.

Let’s pray: Father, thank you for being my Savior, for teaching me Your Word. Help me to remain faithful to You in everything, so that my life reflects You even when I am old. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
