Day 188 – Generosity

Proverbs 22:9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he gives his bread to the poor.

Beginning of the creation of God

Some people naturally have a generous spirit. They give because they want to, not because someone compels them to give. They don’t do it to show the public how generous they are. In fact, they often show their generosity anonymously. People look at the blessings other people have, not knowing their generous heart, but attributing it to good clean living. It causes them to wonder even more when the generosity comes from someone who is poor.

When a poor person gives another poor person something from their generous heart, it causes people to wonder why they’re giving away what they need. It’s not about giving away what they need, it’s about giving to someone who is truly poor, poor in spirit, not in finances. There are many ways for people to be poor.

Solomon saw people every day. He saw the ones who gave as a matter of show, and he saw the generous heart of someone who had little and gave anyway. He also saw the heart of the people, the hearts YAHWEH saw and saw how truly poor the people were even with all their wealth.

Yeshuwa saw the poor estate of the people, their need for YAHWEH. He sat in the treasury and watched how people gave. It wasn’t about what they had or didn’t have, it was about the heart.

Mark 12:41 Now Iesous sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. 42 Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. 43 So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; 44 for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.”

Yeshuwa wanted his disciples not to focus on the woman’s lack, but on how rich she was, because in giving what she had, she gave more than the rich who gave out of their abundance. It wasn’t about what she had or didn’t have, it was about her relationship with YAHWEH.

John in Revelations shows the true estate of those who believe they’re rich and have everything they need.

Revelation 2:8 “And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write, ‘These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life: 9 I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not but are a synagogue of Satan. 10 Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulations for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. 11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Pneuma says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.”’

Revelation 3:14 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of Theos: 15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ — and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked — 18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore, be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Pater on His throne. 22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Pneuma says to the churches.”’”

Before you became a Christian, you were poor. Even if you had a generous heart, you didn’t understand how poor you were. When you said yes, to Yeshuwa, you saw how poor you were. Then your generous spirit became more, and the blessings you received came from Yeshuwa because you had the Pneuma living in you, making you rich. You also saw how meaningless all your generosity was before you said yes to Yeshuwa. You saw how hypocritical you were, and how poor your spirit was because the Pneuma wasn’t living in you.

Everything changed when you said yes to Yeshuwa. Your attitude changed, your heart changed, and your generosity changed. You gave with a heart devoted to Yeshuwa not to the world.

Have you had a heart change? Has your giving become more from your heart and not for show? The woman in the treasury had a generous heart. It wasn’t for show, it was because she loved YAHWEH. Her life depended on Him, not on what she didn’t have and He blessed her.

Yeshuwa will bless you too when you give with a generous heart.

Let’s pray: Father, give me a generous heart that pleases you and does not lift me up. I am nothing without Your love and blessings in my life. Everything I have belongs to You. Let Your generous Spirit live in me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
