Day 197 – Advocate
Proverbs 22:22 Do not rob the poor because he is poor, nor oppress the afflicted at the gate; 23 for YAHWEH will plead their cause and plunder the soul of those who plunder them.
- God’s names:
- YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- Iesous/Yeshuwa – Jesus
- Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
- Theos – Supreme Divinity
- Mesites – Go-between, Mediator
- Kurios – Supreme Authority
- God’s character:
- Advocate
- Avenger
- Mediator
- Intercessor
The first time you see a bully is on the playground as a child. It wasn’t the last time you saw him or her. They follow you through life into your workplace and become your landlords or mortgage holders. They’re ruthless in the business world, doing everything they can to coerce you into doing their will. They’re the top sales representatives. At parties they brag about what they sold to the unsuspecting.
Solomon saw people like them in his courts every day. Being a businessman and king, he dealt with many kinds of people and could easily speak about the bully who robs the poor and oppresses the afflicted. He also knew YAHWEH was the only hope for poor people because He will always plead the cause of the poor and afflicted.
Deuteronomy 32:41 If I whet My glittering sword, and My hand takes hold on judgment, I will render vengeance to My enemies and repay those who hate Me. 42 I will make My arrows drunk with blood, and My sword will devour flesh, with the blood of the slain and the captives, from the heads of the leaders of the enemy.”’ 43 “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people; for He will avenge the blood of His servants, and render vengeance to His adversaries; He will provide atonement for His land and His people.” (NKJV)
Do you need an advocate? As Christians, your Advocate is Iesous Christos. He will always champion His children and come against those who would manipulate and bully you.
Romans 8:34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christos who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of Theos, who also makes intercession for us.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one Theos and one Mesites between Theos and men, the Anthropos Christos Iesous, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,
Hebrews 7:25 Therefore, He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to Theos through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Yeshuwa will take vengeance on those who oppress you. You do not need to fear the bullies in your life. Your Advocate and Avenger is Yeshuwa Christos.
James called out the bullies in their midst and told the people not to take heed to them or give them preference.
James 2:1 My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Kurios Iesous Christos, the Kurios of glory, with partiality. 2 For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, 3 and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,” 4 have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? 5 Listen, my beloved brethren: Has Theos not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts? 7 Do they not blaspheme that noble name by which you are called?
You don’t owe your favor to those who oppress you and bully you to do their will. Take your problems to Yeshuwa and watch Him take care of the bullies in your life. You stand strong in your faith and take everything to Yeshuwa. He is your Avenger, Mediator, Advocate, and Intercessor.
Let’s pray: Father, too often I let the bullies control my life. When they see me coming, help me to stand my ground and not give in to their devious ways that would shame me and put me at the disadvantage. Take vengeance on those who would try to bully their way into my life because I trust in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
