Day 198 – Anger

Proverbs 22:24 Make no friendship with an angry man, and with a furious man do not go, 25 lest you learn his ways and set a snare for your soul.

If asked, you could name an angry person. Angry people can be found in many families. You know them, and you do your best not to make friends with them. You don’t want their anger and negativity to affect you.

Solomon was well-acquainted with angry people. Absolom, Adonijah, just to name a couple were angry and stopped at nothing to get what they wanted, which was the throne of their father. Both came to a fatal end. Knowing what kind of people they were, Solomon advised not to form friendships with angry people.

Proverbs 14:17 A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, and a man of wicked intentions is hated.

What kind of person were you when you accepted Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios? Did you expect your anger to disappear as soon as you committed your life to Yeshuwa?

Do you look at your anger as justified because Yeshuwa was angry with the moneychangers on the temple porch?

John 2:12 After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days. 13 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Iesous went up to Jerusalem. 14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangers doing business. 15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. 16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Pater’s house a house of merchandise!” 17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.”

Do not justify your anger with Yeshuwa’s righteous anger. Instead do what you can to get rid of your anger.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Yeshuwa told the people what would happen to angry people.

Matthew 5:21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire. 23 Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother and then come and offer your gift. 25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. 26 Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.

Anger comes with a price. If you are angry, seek help. There are anger management classes to help you with your anger. Don’t rely on yourself alone to get rid of your anger.

When you spend time reading and studying Yeshuwa’s Word, the Hagios Pneuma can help you with your anger. Anger is a sin. It will keep you from eternal life.

Galatians 5:15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another! 16 I say then: Walk in the Pneuma, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Pneuma, and the Pneuma against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Pneuma, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of Theos.

What kind of person should you be with one another? Friendly. Yeshuwa called His disciples His friends because they learned from Him and did what He asked them. He is also your Friend when you spend time with Him and obey Him. When you repent, you will find forgiveness. Then you will see that He is slow to anger. He holds nothing against you. You will know His love. But when you hold onto anger the only thing you will find is separation from Him.

Pray. Seek His face and seek help. Then you will know the freedom an anger free life can give you.

Let’s pray: Father, help me when I’m angry to reach out to those who can help me. Help me to stay steadfast in Your Word and with Your Holy Spirit see my anger turn to love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
