Day 202 – Food

Proverbs 23:1 When you sit down to eat with a ruler, consider carefully what is before you; 2 and put a knife to your throat If you are a man given to appetite. 3 Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food.

People love to eat. You can easily tell the healthy eater from the unhealthy one. When you stand in line at the grocery store, you can also see how healthy their diet is by what they put on the conveyor. People also enjoy parties with an unending food supply. People will either heap their plates or barely have anything on their plates.

As the king of Israel, Solomon often entertained officials and rulers from other countries. One such person was the queen of Sheba. Her description of his table showed the sumptuousness of the food he provided.

1 Kings 10:1 Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of YAHWEH, she came to test him with hard questions. 2 She came to Jerusalem with a very great retinue, with camels that bore spices, very much gold, and precious stones; and when she came to Solomon, she spoke with him about all that was in her heart. 3 Then Solomon answered all her questions; there was nothing so difficult for the king that he could not explain it to her. 4 When the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, 5 the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the service of his waiters and their apparel, his cupbearers, and his entryway by which he went up to the house of YAHWEH, there was no more spirit in her. 6 Then she said to the king: “It was a true report which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom. 7 However, I did not believe the words until I came and saw with my own eyes; and indeed, half had not been told to me. Your wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame of which I heard. 8 Happy are your men and happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom! 9 Blessed be YAHWEH your Elohiym, who delighted in you, setting you on the throne of Israel! Because YAHWEH has loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, to do justice and righteousness.” 10 Then she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, spices in great quantity, and precious stones. There never again came such abundance of spices as the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.

When Solomon entertained, he noted who ate greedily and those who ate sparingly and told the people it was wise not to be a glutton. He knew where true wisdom and nourishment came from — YAHWEH.

Psalm 19:7 The law of YAHWEH is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of YAHWEH is sure, making wise the simple; 8 the statutes of YAHWEH are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of YAHWEH is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 the fear of YAHWEH is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of YAHWEH are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward.

As Christians, food isn’t the only thing you eat. YAHWEH’S Word is your food.

Psalm 119:103 How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

When you open Yeshuwa’s Word to study and learn from Him, you sit down to a banquet. Every word was written for your understanding.

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of Theos, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of Theos may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

When you eat, you prepare your body for the work you need to do. When you spend time in Yeshuwa’s Word, you prepare your soul for the work Yeshuwa gives you. If you don’t have His Word in you, your soul will wither and die. You would not deprive your body of food because you know that you will die if you don’t eat. But Christians deprive their soul of food when they don’t spend time in Yeshuwa’s Word.

Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that YAHWEH is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

Be careful what kind of food you eat. There are many religions and denominations that tell you that you need to add to your daily consumption with words that kill rather than sustain the soul. When you decide to taste the dainties of another religion, it is the same as putting a knife to your throat. Only Yeshuwa’s Word will give life and health to your soul.

Do you eat from Yeshuwa’s Word daily? Do you spend time in Bible study and prayer? Is your life more than food and drink? Is it also the Word of Theos that nourishes your soul?

Come, taste and see that YAHWEH is good. Eat your fill, be satisfied and your soul will be healthy.

Let’s pray: Father, Your Word is life and health to my soul. Help me to have a healthy portion every day to sustain my life and keep me away from those things that bring death instead of life to my soul. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
