Day 203 – Wealth

Proverbs 23:4 Do not overwork to be rich; because of your own understanding, cease! 5 Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven.

• Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
• Theos – Supreme Divinity

Early in life one of your teachers asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up. The answers were as varied as the number of students in the classroom. Though every answer had perceived glamor to them. Once you made your decision, you aimed your studies in that direction. Many people who embarked on their studies wanted to be the best, receive the top honors so they could apply for the most prestigious jobs and work their way to the top of the ladder. They wouldn’t be satisfied until they reached the top. When they did, they still wanted to go higher.

Solomon said a person shouldn’t focus their entire attention on wealth and prestige. It can disappear in the blink of an eye. There was and is only one place a person should focus their attention on, and that is YAHWEH. Solomon knew, He gave people the power to gain wealth.

Deuteronomy 8:10 “When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless YAHWEH your Elohiym for the good land which He has given you. 11 Beware that you do not forget YAHWEH your Elohiym by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, 12 lest — when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; 13 and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; 14 when your heart is lifted up, and you forget YAHWEH your Elohiym who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; 15 who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water; who brought water for you out of the flinty rock; 16 who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end — 17 then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ 18 You will remember YAHWEH your Elohiym, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

When you lift yourself up because of your position in the workplace, community, among your friends, and your family, YAHWEH said, He would show you who gave you the power to gain wealth. Solomon knew where his wealth came from, and he cautioned the people to remember who made them prosperous.

Many Christians fall into the trap of their own power. You see the power-hungry Christians in the church and community. They make certain you know their name. It isn’t long before those power-hungry people who rely more on their knowledge than on Yeshuwa tumble from the pedestal they made for themselves. Then their wealth becomes meaningless. People see them for who they really are, not who they made themselves out to be.

When Yeshuwa called you by name, He expected you to turn to Him in everything in your life. He also gave you work to do for His kingdom. He never called you to wealth. He called you to work. Wealth is a byproduct of the work He gives you. You must never forget that what you have comes from Him alone.

Paul told the Philippians that he was content, not because of his wealth or lack of wealth, but because it was Yeshuwa who gave him what he needed.

Philippians 4:10 But I rejoiced in Kurios greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity. 11 Not that I speak regarding need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in everything, I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christos who strengthens me.

He then says who supplies everything he needed.

Philippians 4:19 And my Theos shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christos Iesous.

What do you have that you didn’t get from Yeshuwa? He is your life. He alone gives you the power to gain wealth. Don’t become power hungry and make claims on your wealth, you will soon find it will disappear as a vapor in the wind. Your wealth and the means to obtain it come strictly from Yeshuwa. He gave you the understanding for your studies, and He opened the doors for the work He wants you to do for Him.

James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of Kurios, and He will lift you up.

1 Peter 5:5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “Theos resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of Theos, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Let’s pray: Father, thank you for the admonition that it is You who prospers me — not me. Fill me with Your purpose and help me to do Your work according to Your good pleasure. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

May today be a day you walk in the blessing of Christ Jesus in everything you do.
