Day 204 – Words, Doctrine
Proverbs 23:6 Do not eat the bread of a miser, nor desire his delicacies; 7 for as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. 8 The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit and waste your pleasant words.

Have you received an invitation to dine with someone you admired only to find out what the person was like when you sat at his table? He looked impressive on the outside, but up close, you see that his lifestyle leads to decay and death.
Solomon doubtless had many invitations to dine with the heads of state from other countries. People who didn’t know YAHWEH or followed the strict dietary laws found in the Law. He said eating with them only led to death.
His father warned against eating with wicked people. In a prayer David prayed to YAHWEH, he asked Him to keep him safe from those who practiced wicked works.
Psalm 141:1 (A Psalm of David.) YAHWEH, I cry out to You; make haste to me! Give ear to my voice when I cry out to You. 2 Let my prayer be set before You as incense, the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. 3 Set a guard, O YAHWEH, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips. 4 Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men who work iniquity; and do not let me eat of their delicacies.
Solomon saw how his father lived his life in close communion with YAHWEH and let the people know they should do the same and keep themselves pure from any thought or wickedness that was set before them.
As Christians, Yeshuwa continually told His disciples to watch out for the leaven of the Pharisees. They spoke deceptively to the people, interpreting the Law for their own pleasure and not what would profit the people with a close relationship with YAHWEH.
Matthew 16:6 Then Iesous said to them, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.” 7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have taken no bread.” 8 But Iesous, being aware of it, said to them, “O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread? 9 Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up? 10 Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets did you take up? 11 How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? — but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Every day you have the opportunity to listen to people who claim they are Christians. They seemingly live good lives, they talk about Yeshuwa, but when you go to their church or sit at their table, you find that the doctrine they believe leads straight to hell. The only way you can keep yourself free from the lies they believe is to spend time in Bible study, prayer, and the fellowship of believers who teach the inerrant Word of Theos.
2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to Theos, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
When Yeshuwa told the people about His Abba, the people were astonished because His words were unlike those of the Pharisees and Sadducees, it had power.
Luke 4:32 And they were astonished at His teaching, for His word was with authority. (NKJV)
Paul warned believers to be aware of those who preach a false doctrine.
Romans 16:17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. (NKJV)
Ephesians 4:8 Therefore, He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive and gave gifts to men.” 9 (Now this, “He ascended” —what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) 11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christos, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Huios of Theos, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christos; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christos— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
It is for your growth as disciples and Christians to discern what you hear and pay attention to good doctrine that edifies your soul and life. Any other doctrine will wither your soul and cause decay in your walk with Yeshuwa.
1 Timothy 6:3 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Kurios Iesous Christos, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, 4 he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, 5 useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.
Solomon told the people to put a knife to their throat if they ate the dainties of those who looked and sounded good, but their lives led to decay and death. Yeshuwa and Paul told the people the same thing, stay away from those who preached a false doctrine. If you eat their words, it will destroy your soul.
The only way to know if what you are listening to is from Yeshuwa, is to read and study Yeshuwa’s Word. Let the Hagios Pneuma lead you to those who teach sound doctrine. Only then will the words you read and hear give life to your soul and body.
Let’s pray: Father, give me discernment when I hear people teach and preach Your Word. Let me know their words come from You and not from those who want to steal my relationship with You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
