Day 207 – Discipline

Proverbs 23:12 Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to words of knowledge. 13 Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. 14 You shall beat him with a rod and deliver his soul from hell. 15 My son, if your heart is wise, my heart will rejoice — indeed, I myself; 16 yes, my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak right things.

Nobody likes discipline. Nobody. But it is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your children. My generation knew that. However, the government decided to interfere with the home in 1985 and made it illegal for parents to use corporal punishment on their children. I can understand when abuse is being used, but a spanking for bad behavior isn’t abuse. Discipline teaches children right from wrong.

Solomon understood the necessity for discipline in the home. He said that proper discipline kept the soul from hell. In many countries today, caning is used for punishment. Solomon indicates it in this passage. He said withholding correction is abuse. Through his study of the Law, he saw that YAHWEH did not withhold punishment from the children of Israel when they came out of Egypt. He gave punishments for specific offenses against Him. YAHWEH didn’t withhold punishment from His children. Solomon wanted the people to understand YAHWEH’S law. It wasn’t man’s law, but Elohiym’s law.

Job 5:17 “Behold, happy is the man whom Elowahh corrects; therefore, do not despise the chastening of the Shadday. 18 For He bruises, but He binds up; He wounds, but His hands make whole. 19 He will deliver you in six troubles, yes, in seven no evil will touch you. 20 In famine He will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword. 21 You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, and you will not be afraid of destruction when it comes. 22 You will laugh at destruction and famine, and you will not be afraid of the beasts of the earth. 23 For you will have a covenant with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field will be at peace with you. 24 You will know that your tent is peaceful; you will visit your dwelling and find nothing amiss. 25 You will also know that your descendants will be many, and your offspring like the grass of the earth. 26 You will come to the grave at a full age, as a sheaf of grain ripens in its season. 27 Behold, this we have searched out; it is true. Hear it and know for yourself.”

Today, you have children out of control because parents are afraid to discipline their children. Any form of punishment is considered abuse, and children can be forcibly taken from your home. So, how do you discipline your children, so they know right from wrong?

This question affects Christians as much as it does non-Christians. Many Christian parents have been tried in a court for disciplining their children.

Satan’s goal in your home is to make certain you don’t teach your children about Yeshuwa.

John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (NKJV)

Yeshuwa wants you to enjoy life. Satan wants to steal it from you, including your children if you dare to discipline them.

Discipline will not harm your children. It will bless them and keep them on the straight and narrow.

Hebrews 12:4 You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of KURIOS, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; 6 for whom KURIOS loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.” 7 If you endure chastening, Theos deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? 8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Will we not much more readily be in subjection to the Pater of spirits and live? 10 For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. 11 Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Being a Christian isn’t easy to begin with, but when it comes to discipline, godly discipline, it becomes almost non-existent. Society today would train you in appropriate ways to discipline your children. You have seen the results — children who run the home and do whatever they want, knowing the law is on their side.

The only thing you can do is pray, seek Yeshuwa’s help in training your children, so they grow up in the nurture and admonition of Kurios.

Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in Kurios, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” 4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of Kurios.

Discipline isn’t wrong. It’s godly. It’s important or YAHWEH wouldn’t have included it in the Law. YAHWEH’S Law is still in effect.

Matthew 5:18 “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. (NKJV)

Earth hasn’t passed away yet. Yeshuwa expects you to discipline your children and keep their soul from hell.

Let’s pray: Father, thank you for loving me and disciplining me when I disobey You. Help me to train my children in righteousness, so they will know right from wrong, and know You, their Savior. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
