Day 209 – Life

Proverbs 23:19 Hear, my son, and be wise; and guide your heart in the way. 20 Do not mix with winebibbers, or with gluttonous eaters of meat; 21 for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags. 22 Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise your mother when she is old. 23 Buy the truth, and do not sell it, also wisdom, instruction, and understanding. 24 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, and he who begets a wise child will delight in him. 25 Let your father and your mother be glad and let her who bore you rejoice. 26 My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways. 27 For a harlot is a deep pit, and a seductress is a narrow well. 28 She also lies in wait as for a victim and increases the unfaithful among men.

How many bars can you count on the main streets of your city or town? People love to drink and enjoy the good life. How many exotic dance clubs can you count? People willingly spend their money for pleasure, not realizing where it leads them.

Solomon was a man of deep wisdom and understanding. He taught his children to stay away from those things that would rob them of reason and lead them to poverty.

Solomon began the book of Proverbs teaching his son about those who would lead him astray and to stay away from them.

Proverbs 2:10 When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, 11 discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you, 12 to deliver you from the way of evil, from the man who speaks perverse things, 13 from those who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness; 14 who rejoice in doing evil, and delight in the perversity of the wicked; 15 whose ways are crooked, and who are devious in their paths; 16 to deliver you from the immoral woman, from the seductress who flatters with her words, 17 who forsakes the companion of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her Elohiym. 18 For her house leads down to death, and her paths to the dead; 19 none who go to her return, nor do they regain the paths of life— 20 so you may walk in the way of goodness and keep to the paths of righteousness. 21 For the upright will dwell in the land, and the blameless will remain in it; 22 but the wicked will be cut off from the earth, and the unfaithful will be uprooted from it.

There is only one path for those who reject the wisdom and instructions of YAHWEH — death.

What was your life like before you accepted Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios? Did you frequent bars and dance clubs? Did you enjoy the good life? What did He say about the straight and narrow paths a person could take in life?

Matthew 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. (NKJV)

Yeshuwa also gave His disciples a promise about what the good life really is.

John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (NKJV)

You don’t need what the world offers. It leads to hell and destruction. Yeshuwa offers abundant life.

Psalm 16:11 You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Christianity doesn’t rob you of pleasure, it gives you a life full of meaning — pleasure, truth, instruction, wisdom, righteousness, and peace.

Romans 14:16 Therefore, do not let your good be spoken of as evil; 17 for the kingdom of Theos is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Hagios Pneuma. 18 For he who serves Christos in these things is acceptable to Theos and approved by men. 19 Therefore, let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.

Matthew 6:19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 The lamp of the body is the eye. If, therefore, your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If, therefore, the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve Theos and mammon. 25 Therefore, I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

When you obey Yeshuwa and follow where He leads you, you will always enjoy the pleasures He offers you, because His pleasures lead to eternal life.

Let’s pray: Father, thank you for showing me what I have in You when I choose to follow You. Keep me away from those things that would destroy my body and soul in eternal death. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
