Day 232 – Words

Proverbs 26:27 Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him.

• YAHWEH Elyown – The LORD Most High
• Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus

• Righteous

We have all said something we wished we hadn’t and trying to fix what we said only made things worse. The more we said, the deeper the pit we dug for ourselves. There are those who say things, knowing exactly what they’re saying as they try to cause trouble for others. Eventually, the pit is so deep a stone will roll over him and crush him.

Solomon saw people every day who tried to win his favor. The more they talked the more flattery they used, the deeper the pit they dug for themselves. He saw through their flattery and told the people not to listen to people who say things for the purpose of hearing themselves speak. It would only cause stones to roll on them and crush their intentions.

Solomon’s first interaction with those people was in his father’s courts and his advice came from his father who prayed and sought Elohiym in everything he did.

Psalm 7:10 My defense is of Elohiym, who saves the upright in heart. 11 Elohiym is a just judge, and Elohiym is angry with the wicked every day. 12 If he does not turn back, He will sharpen His sword; He bends His bow and makes it ready. 13 He also prepares for Himself instruments of death; He makes His arrows into fiery shafts. 14 Behold, the wicked brings forth iniquity; yes, he conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood. 15 He made a pit and dug it out and fell into the ditch which he made. 16 His trouble will return upon his own head, and his violent dealing will come down on his own crown. 17 I will praise YAHWEH according to His righteousness and will sing praise to the name of YAHWEH Elyown.

Do Christians flatter with their lips? Do they say things that dig ditches that cause them trouble? Yes, all the time. Just because we’re Christians doesn’t make us exempt from thoughtless words. What we need to do is pay attention to our words and think about what we say before we say it.

David prayed a simple prayer that we should make ours:

Psalm 141:3 Set a guard, O YAHWEH, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.

When you ask Yeshuwa to place a guard on your lips you won’t dig as many ditches. When you find yourself digging ditches, pray and ask Yeshuwa to forgive you and cleanse you from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (NKJV)

Are you a ditch digger or have you put a guard on your mouth?

Let’s pray: Father, put a guard on my mouth so that the words I speak will honor You and bring You glory and not cause me trouble. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
