Day 234 – Plans

Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

  • God’s names:
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Soter – Savior
  • Kurios – Supreme Authority, Lord
  • Theos – Supreme Divinity
  • God’s character:
  • Life

People boast all the time. They tell you their plans for the future, what they hope to accomplish. Everything is planned for except one thing — death. Dreams are cut off in a blink of an eye.

A headline I saw this morning showed that the reigning Miss Austria was found dead — she was twenty-two. In the past couple of months, I’ve seen many people with seemingly full lives ahead of them, dead. I’m sure they all had plans.

Solomon told the people not to boast about tomorrow because they didn’t know what tomorrow would bring them. Instead, the only person they were to look to was YAHWEH. He is the one who controls life and death.

When you accepted Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios, you knew only one thing, your future was secure. Your future doesn’t depend on what you do now in this life. Your life is eternal in heaven. What you do here will determine your eternity.

Yeshuwa spoke a parable to the people about plans for the future.

Luke 12:16 Then He spoke a parable to them, saying, “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. 17 And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What should I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ 18 Then he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’ 20 But Theos said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ 21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward Theos.”

Nobody knows what will happen between the time they wake up in the morning and go to bed at night. They hope there will be tomorrow, but there is no guarantee.

James also addressed the same thing to the people.

James 4:13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If Kurios wills, we will live and do this or that.” 16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

It’s not wrong to make plans for your life. What is wrong is boasting about those plans, as if it’s a done deal. Only Theos knows what tomorrow will bring you. It is His will you look to and not yours.

So then, you pray, seek Yeshuwa’s face about your plans, and watch Him direct your life in the way He wants it to go.

Let’s pray: Father, You know the direction of my life. You know my plans. Lord, direct my life according to Your plans, not mine. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
