Day 235 – Praise

Proverbs 27:2 Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.

  • God’s names:
  • YAHWEH/JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Adonay – God’s proper name
  • Y@HOVIH – God
  • Elohiym – Supreme God
  • Yeshuwa/Iesous – Jesus
  • Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
  • God’s character:
  • Shield
  • Great Reward
  • Friend

How often have you been in a group of people and someone tells you they are the best at whatever they do? Nobody can do it better, and the world can’t live without them. You know the person. You already know who they are. When you see them, you turn and go in another direction, unless they see you first.

Solomon heard many boasters and self-acclaimers as king of Israel. He knew the best acclaim came from others, not the person making their own claims. He also knew YAHWEH was the one who made claims about others.

Genesis 15:1 After these things the word of YAHWEH came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” 2 But Abram said, “Adonay Y@HOVIH, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3 Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!” 4 And behold, the word of YAHWEH came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.” 5 Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So will your descendants be.” 6 And he believed in YAHWEH, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.

YAHWEH doesn’t call anyone else in Scripture His friend.

Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of Elohiym came to present themselves before YAHWEH, and Satan also came among them. 7 And YAHWEH said to Satan, “From where do you come?” Then Satan answered YAHWEH and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.” 8 Then YAHWEH said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”

YAHWEH praised Abram and Job. Both men were humble men who believed Elohiym. Abram had questions, and I’m sure Job was humbled at the loss he suffered, but both believed in Him. YAHWEH told Satan no one was like Job — upright and faithful.

You can get no better praise than from YAHWEH.

As Christians, you know your acclaim comes from Yeshuwa. He called you. He knows your name, and He gives you gifts and talents to serve the body of Christos.

What have you said about yourself in the way of boasting of pride?

Solomon said pride goes before destruction.

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

If you blow your own horn, boasting about your achievements, you will fall from your own pedestal when someone better than you comes along, shown through the praise of others, not themselves.

It’s better for you to let others speak about your achievements than for you to do it. First, people will see it as self-acclaiming, boasting, if you do it, and second, it’s more believable when others tell the good things you do for the body of Christos.

Let’s pray: Father, forgive me for being prideful about my achievements. Help me to seek You and keep You on the throne of my heart. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
